Determine:

(iii) The total energy possessed by the skydiver [2M] E = 815 622.6J

c) Paige is the tallest player in South’s Varsity volleyball team. She is in spiking position
when Julia gives her the perfect set. The 226g volleyball is 2.29m above the ground and
has a speed of 1.06 m/s. Paige spikes the ball, doing 9.89 J of work on it. Determine:

(i) The potential energy of the ball before the spike [2M] EP = 5.08 J

(ii) The kinetic energy of the ball before the spike [2M] Ek = 0.13 J

(iii) The total energy of the ball before the spike [2M] E = 5.21 J

(iv) Determine the total energy of the ball hitting the floor on the opponent’s side
[2M] E = 15.1 J

(v) Determine the speed of the ball upon hitting the floor on the opponent’s side of
the net [2M] v = 11.56 m/s

c) A squirrel with a mass of 2.5 kg is trying to jump from a tree which is 3 meter high
from the ground. Calculate the potential energy and kinetic energy based on the
situations below:

(ii) When the squirrel falls 1.5 meter from the tree [4M] Ep = Ek = 36.79 J
(iii) When the squirrel touches the ground [3M] Ep = 0 J, Ek = 73.58 J

d) An electric motor lifts an object of 250 kg to a height of 210 meter in 28 seconds. If the
input power of the electric motor is 20 000 W, calculate the efficiency of the electric

d) If a machine takes in 50 kJ for 50 seconds, what is its energy output if the efficiency of

well. Calculate:

c) A 150g ball is dropped from rest at a height of 2m. It bounces to a maximum height of
1.8m. Calculate:

d) If a 100W electric motor has an efficiency of 82%, calculate the time taken to lift a 50

(ii) A truck is moving with a velocity of 12.6 km/hr. If the mass of the truck is

d) An electric motor lifts an object of 250 kg to a height of 210 m in 287 seconds. If the
input power of the electric motor is 20 000 Watt, calculate the efficiency of the
