People can communicate with different ways it can be verbal, nonverbal and also by means of visual.
We’re communicating with other people to share information, ideas, thoughts, expressing our feelings
and ask some questions. It allows us to understand, gain knowledge and understand the information we
acquired. As an ABM students in my Senior High School life, I’ve learn that communication is a
fundamental need, and meeting it can be a powerful way to gain users and customers. It has a great
impact on our life because being a good communicator can build a healthy relationships with everyone.
If communication does not exist, this world will be in chaos. Misunderstanding and confusion will
surely happen. Our thoughts will be affected. A lack of communication can often lead to missed
opportunities, especially at school. Imagine a scenario inside a classroom, a teacher is just standing in
front of his students without communicating with them. There is no learning without sharing ideas,
asking questions and sharing an information. So, communication is really important nowadays because
it enables us to connect with other people.
Miscommunication exist because of certain barriers that hinder both people communicating. Also, it
happens due to lack of understanding. One of the barrier that I know is language barrier, if sender and
receiver have a different language using on communicating with each other, misunderstanding will
happen because they can’t understand the medium used by one another. Also, it can happen due to lack
of communication skill because not everyone finds it easy to share and express their ideas. They will
have a hard time to understand each other if the other one cannot communicate effectively.
4. In what specific ways can you enhance your ability to communicate with people from diverse
cultures?
I can enhance my ability to communicate with other people by practicing active listening. To be an
effective communicator we need to be a good listeners too to show respect and make them feel that
we’re interested on what they’re trying to say, so they can’t be offended. Also, by improving my
nonverbal communication. It is important to practice to avoid misunderstanding. Another, I should be
careful on humor to avoid conflict because some of other culture can’t take a joke as a joke because we
have different perspectives. We Filipinos loves to use sarcasm when telling some joke, but this can have
negative effect to other cultures, so we need to be mindful.
5. Give at least three (3) examples where you encountered a scene of miscommunication and how were
you able to solve / fix it.
First, when I’m inquiring at school but due to background noise I can’t clearly understand what the
teacher is trying to explain. To solve it, I will ask them to repeat what they’ve said in a polite manner so I
can be able to understand them. Another one, I asked someone to buy me a food because they’re going
to buy at the canteen but due to lack of information they bought something that I don’t really want to
eat. It’s my fault because I just tell them to buy me a food without telling if what kind of food that I want
to eat. To solve this, I will tell them the exact food that I want them to buy for me. Next is when I’m
sending messages through chats, there’s a typographical error and it made the grammar incorrect. To fix
it, I’m resending my chat without an error so they are able to understand on what I’m trying to imply.
