Procreate Tutorial - Foil Split Monogram

3. Draw the letter or letters you want to be split. I used the Monogram brush in the Calligraphy set.
4. Add a new layer above this layer.
5. Open Selection Menu (ribbon icon) and at the bottom, select Rectangle. Place your pen on the screen
and drag to form a rectangle the size you want to block out from your initial. At this point I also changed
my color to yellow so I could easily tell the difference in layers.
8. Add a new layer and select a brush to write your name or word inside the rectangle.
9. Turn off the second layer with the yellow rectangle by unchecking the box in the layer. Then tap the
layer and choose Select.
10. Go to the first layer with the initial, tap it and select Clear.
11. You can leave it as is but I’m going to draw some lines around my word. To do this, I’m turning on the
yellow rectangle layer by tapping the checkbox. Add a new layer above the initial and then move it to
the top of all the layers.
12. Draw lines or whatever decor you’d like to add around your word.
13. Turn off the layer with the yellow rectangle. I chose to add some sides to my lines to make a box.
14. You can delete the layer with the yellow rectangle and merge all the other layers together to have your
16. At the bottom, select Crystals. Set your size to 60% (or however large you want your brush to be), set
your Pressure to 50%, Momentum and Distortion both set to 0%. Then draw over the monogram to get
17. To add the foil, add a new layer above the monogram. In the new layer, fill your canvas with the colors
20. Go back to the Adjustments menu again and select Noise. At the bottom, select Clouds. Set the Scale
to about 25%, the Octaves to 0%, and the Turbulence to about 70%. Then move your pen from the left
side of the screen to the right side and increase the Noise by about 25%.
21. When you’re done, close the Adjustments menu. Go to the layer menu and tap the layer this is in.
Select Clipping Mask.
22. To add a slight drop shadow to the monogram, duplicate the monogram layer by sliding it to the left and
selecting Duplicate.
23. Tap the original layer on the bottom and open the Transform menu by tapping the arrow icon. Then
nudge the selection once or twice by tapping outside the bounding box in the direction you want to
move it. You can choose to add a slight gaussian blur to this. I blurred mine 1.5%.
24. To add a textured background, add a new layer and move it beneath all the layers. Fill it with black.
25. To add texture to this, let’s make a texture brush stamp. In the Brush menu, tap the plus sign.
26. Under Stroke Path, turn the spacing all the way up.
27. Under Shape, tap Edit. Then select Import and Source Library.
28. At the top select Grain Source and choose a nice texture you’d like. I chose Rust.
29. Use 2 fingers and tap the image to invert it. Then tap Done.
30. Under Apple Pencil, turn the Opacity all the way down.
31. Under Properties, turn on Use Stamp Preview and turn the maximum size all the way up. Tap on Done.
32. Select the color white and turn your brush size all the way up . Add a new layer above the black layer.
Tap in the center of the canvas to add your texture.
33. Tap the N in the layer and turn down the opacity. I turned mine down to about 18%.
34. To change the colors of the foil, duplicate the foil layer and turn off the original one so you don’t lose
your original work. Turn off the clipping mask.
35. Open the Adjustment menu (wand icon) and select Hue, Saturation, Brightness.
36. Move the Hue slider to the desired color you want. You can also play with the Saturation slider. To get a
silver foil with no color, move the Saturation slider all the way to the bottom.
37. Move this layer to be directly above your monogram and turn on Clipping Mask again. You can turn off
the dark background and add a lighter background.
38. For a light background, add a new layer above the dark backgrounds but below the monogram.
39. Fill it with a light color such as a tannish yellow. Then add a new layer above that.
40. To make a new paper texture brush, open the Brush menu and Duplicate the brush we just made by
swiping it to the left. This allows you to keep all the same settings but just change the Shape.
41. Go to the Shape section, and repeat what we did before but choose a paper texture. I chose Recycled.
Don’t forget to invert it by tapping with 2 fingers. Tap Done.
42. Turn the size all the way up and tap in the center of the canvas. Because we didn’t change colors, you
won’t notice anything. Tap the Layer and tap the N and scroll up and down through the Blend Modes to
find one that looks nice. I chose Color Dodge.
43. The drop shadow looks too dark on this light background so I reduced the opacity of that layer by
tapping the N and turning the opacity down to about 38%.
