Highrise Assignment

This document outlines an assignment for architecture students to learn about high-rise structures. It includes objectives like understanding structural systems, earthquake resistance, wind loads, and building services. Students will be grouped to select a high-rise building, compile structural information, and create a 3D model using software. The goals are to enumerate structural types and explain one system in detail through modeling. A list of 30 exemplar high-rise buildings from around the world is provided to choose from. Faculty will provide guidance to help students complete the assignment.

Assignment on preparing 3D models

of HIGHRISE STRUCTURES in
Advanced Building Technology and Services
for 4th year B.Arch. Students
Academic year 2020-2021

INTRODUCTION:
Overview to High-Rise structures, where students are suppose to comprehend behaviour of different
high rise structure under different loading condition and structural systems for high-rise structures
around the world.

OBJECTIVES:
1. To understand concept of high rise buildings and their various structural systems.
2. To understand earthquake resistant measures for high rise buildings.
3. To understand wind pressure analysis and behaviour of high rise buildings.
4. To understand services essential in high rise buildings.
5. To understand Tuned Mass Dampers (Harmonic absorbers) or Seismic dampers for stability.

FACULTY INPUTS:
1. Lecture (online mode) conducted by. Prof. Aniruddha Kolhatkar on high rise structures around the
world, with an intent to understand; concept, behaviour, earthquake resistant measures, Seismic
dampers, wind pressure analysis etc.,
2. Lecture (online mode) conducted by. Prof. Jayant Patwardhan with an intent to understand services
and its space requirements of high rise buildings such as Fire-Safety, HVAC (Heating Ventilation and
Air Conditioning), MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing)

OUTPUT OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

Students to work in a group of three (max) and select any high rise building as mentioned in the list
and have to prepare
1. A0 size sheet with template compilation of high-rise building structural system
2. A0 Data collection of Selected Highrise Structure and 3D Structural system of any high-rise
building (from the list of building mentioned below) by using software of your choice.

LEARNING OUTCOME:
1. Enumerate the types of structural systems of High-rise buildings through Notes Sketches and
Photographs.
2. Explain one structural system in detail through data collection and 3D modelling of the selected
building by experiential learning.
