DISCUSSION
EXAMPLES OF INDOOR RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
As the name implies, indoor recreational activities are
usually done within a building and under a roof. It
is mostly passive in nature. And usually practiced among
family, friends and colleagues.
It is important to note that during competitive sports some
recreational games like badminton, table tennis would not be
played outdoors but only indoors because of the effect of
weather. However during recreation, since there are no
specific rules and regulations, it can be played and enjoyed
outdoors. Since part of the characteristics of recreation is the
fact that it is done during leisure time for fun and enjoyment
and there are no monetary rewards attached, competitive
sports would be excluded from this list.
Example of indoor recreational games includes;
1. Playing Hide and Seek
This is one game that is really fun to play in a family or
especially among young kids

3
When playing hide and seek it is important to consider safety
first, and ensure that everyone in the house knows what is
about to happen. Friends and families can edit the rules as
they please as it is basically recreation and the aim is to
have fun.

2. Playing chess, playing board games and cards.

This an example of a passive recreational game. All you need
to play this game is the equipment (chessboard, monopoly,
scrabble, card, etc). Friends and families can play this game
indoors at almost any time of the day. An individual playing
this game needs a combination of intellect and or luck to win.
In chess, for example, you need more of intellect, while in
games that require dice, it's more of luck needed.

3. Indoor Games: a game billiards, table tennis, badminton,

tennis or squash can be a great way to spend time in your
room and enjoy! They are indoor sports and are also a great
way to recreate

4. Playing Computer and Video Games: Well, before I say

anything about the kind of choices you have in computer
games and video games, I have to warn you that this game can
be very addictive! I mean, I could say that you have to spent
many hours and even days, glued to the computer and
connected to the exciting games! There is simply no end to the
kinds of games you can play. No matter what your interest –
fashion, food, airplanes, bicycles, astronomy, language,
business or anything else – you will find a game that you’ll
love it! In case you want to have a video game console at home
always, the choice is the hottest Nintendo Wii, Sony
PlayStation and, of course, Microsoft Xbox.

5. Dancing and Listening to Music

Dance: Dance is not just art, it’s also a good practice and
therefore is an effective stress buster! Although it is not
always an advantage if you take formal training in the arts,
certainly a prerequisite! Anyone and I mean, absolutely
anyone can dance. Dance when you’re happy, dance when
you are sad, when you get tired of dancing, but every time you
dance, dance like nobody’s watching you, and I guarantee you
will enjoy every moment of it.
4
Music: Just as dance, music as relaxed – you do not need to
be a great singer or musician to enjoy music. I listen to music
when I’m driving to work, and I can not tell you how many
times I just start singing while listening to these songs. By the
time I got to my destination, I was completely rejuvenated! It
may seem too good to be true, but you have to try. You will be
amazed at the results for yourself

6. Yoga, Floor Exercises, Planks, Weight Lifting

Yoga originated in ancient India and it comprises of a
combination of physical, mental and spiritual practices. Floor
exercises, Planks, and weight lifting are exercises that can be
done during one's leisure time indoors.

7. Arm Wrestling
Arm wrestling basically is a sport to show who has the best
arm strength among two individuals. To play arm wrestling,
each individual places one arm on a smooth surface (e.g a
table) with their elbows bent and touching the surface, and
they grip each other's hand. The aim of the game is to pin your
opponent arm on the surface (table) with your hand over your
opponents' arm. It is important to note that only one hand
should be used, and no leaning or support from the other
hand or shoulder is allowed. It can be a fun game among
individuals of the same age.

8. Internet Surfing: Exactly what you are doing now right?

This is an indoor recreational activity that can be very
addictive especially when it comes to social media. Most of
these tech giants on the internet have found a way to keep
individuals hooked on them spending lots of hours each day
on their gadgets. There are numerous benefits of social media
such as staying in touch with friends and family, staying
updated with recent happenings around the world, among
other things.Well, if nothing else to do, you can always log on
to the Internet. Internet provides you a multitude of
entertainment options, including online games, shop online,
chat online, surf video, blogs, social networking, online dating
or even read the news online.

9. Reading: Benefits of reading cannot be emphasized enough.

I feel that people who like to read, you can never get bored
when they are alone. Reading is not only a source of
5
entertainment but also a great source of knowledge and
inspiration. Reading can be one of the best activities you can
enjoy at home. You can enjoy all genres of literature that fits
your style. Fiction, nonfiction, poetry, newspapers, magazines,
or even comic books, lots of choice! So next time you are
looking for fun things to do indoors, just grab a book and start
reading!

10. Wrote: What better way to spend a lazy afternoon, instead

of putting your heart and let your creativity flow with a pen
and paper! Well, writing can not only fun but can be a great
stress buster too. After a week of slogging hard, try to sit down
and write her diary over the weekend, and you will be amazed
at all the positive thoughts that you will have once you start
writing. However, as I said, you may not always agree with my
idea of fun! So keep reading until you find the option
that-kind-of-fun!
