TASK 1

In not more than 5 sentences, answer the following questions

comprehensively. (3 points each)

1. Do you think thought experiment is still useful in science in the present time?
 Yes, I think experiment is still useful in the present time because there are
questions that must be answered in order for us to understand something.
Experiments are needed to know is something is right or something is not
working. Though we are already modernized, experiments are still done and
some are conducted with the use of animals.
2. Do you think the Church should intervene in scientific activities?
 Yes, I think the church should intervene in scientific activities because there
are some scientists who disregard human rights just to conduct scientific
activities on human beings. Just like what happened to medical testing in
Africa, black people are still humans and they still have rights and freedom to
live. Ethical Considerations should be brought to science.

3. What is Darwin’s contribution to modern science?

 Charles Darwin’s contribution to modern science is the theory of evolution
where he explained the existence of humans. It is considered to be one of the
most important works in the literature. He also introduced the idea of all
organic life, including human-beings, under the realm of evolutionary
thinking.
4. How can you describe Freudian ideas as a scientist?
 Freudians idea as a scientist is sentimental since it involves looking back on
the past to understand an individual. The idea of asking questions in order to
reveal the trauma or neurotic illness of a person, and try to fix it with
psychoanalysis as a therapeutic technique is something to be amazed of.
5. If Freud is still alive, what do you think are the major changes he would make
to his theory?
 If Freud is still alive, I think the major changes he would make to his theory
includes changing that morality is always imposed from paternal authority
and can also add developmental stages of his work through seeking different
female behaviours and personalities. He will just include more details on it
regarding the cause that changes an individual’s personality development.

6. How did society shape science and how did science shape society?
 Society shape science through the problem it gave. For example the maya
civilization, they shaped science through using their knowledge about
astronomy as they predict eclipse and used astrological cycles in planting and
harvesting. Science shaped society as it advance and gives more solution to a
problem. The Calendar that the mayans developed is an example as it helped
the society to survive.
7. How do social and human issues influence science?
 Social and Human issues often motivates a scientific research. For example
now that we are facing pandemic, science is working on how to protect us
from the virus. Science is the only branch of studies that can conduct an
experiment to make things back to normal, with the use of the 100%safe
vaccine.
8. How do the political and cultural landscapes of the society affect the
development of scientific culture, science activities, and science literacy?
 Science is the pursuit and application of knowledge and understanding of the
natural and social world following a systematic methodology based on
evidence. Hence, if one culture is already bounded and hated questioning on
their belief, the main core of science will be wasted especially in religion.
Religion is already part in transforming every culture which they’re based on
their faith while science is based on evidence or existence. When any cultural
or political entity pushes into a society “fact” that are not supported by
evidence and instead claim, this is when science literacy is excluded.

9. Considering the current state of our society, do you think science literacy
among people has contributed to the growth of our economy?
 Yes, scientific literacy makes people more brilliant and when people become
more brilliant- they can do brilliant things. Make the economy more
sophisticated, build smart cities, deal with climate change in a less
opinionated framework . Normally you will arrive at the conclusion that
everything around you is made with more or less science. So science helps the
economy because it prepares people to deliver smart solutions to current
problems.
10. How can science influence government policies?
 Science can influence government policies as it play a bigger role in providing
an evidence base for decisions and supporting government efforts to manage
risk and uncertainity.
