Declaration of Philippine Independence Learning Activity

The document is a matrix containing questions and answers about the Philippine Declaration of Independence. It was signed on June 12, 1898 in Cavite-Viejo, not in Manila. Apolinario Mabini and Emilio Aguinaldo's names do not appear on the document. Mabini's signature was likely absent because he objected to declaring independence before establishing a government. Aguinaldo's signature was also absent because he did not attend the signing.

Independence was signed?

Where was it signed It was signed in Cavite-Viejo0

Did Apolinario Mabini and Emilio No, it does not appear

Aguinaldo’s names appear on the names
who affixed their signatures?

1. If this was the declaration of independence why do you think was it signed
in Kawit, Cavite and not in Manila (Intramuros) where the capital of the
Philippines was?

I think it was signed in Kawit, Cavite because Emilio Aguinaldo and the
rest of his member was from this place. Also, the Revolutionary Group “Magdalo”
was located in Kawit Cavite.

2. Why, do you think, Mabini’s signature was not in the document?

I think Mabini’s signature was not in the document because when
Aguinaldo asked him to write the decree declaring June 12, 1898 as the
proclamation of the Independence, Apolinario Mabini objected for there would
have been more important preparations for a government to confront the still
functioning Spanish colonial government than the declaration of independence.

3. Why, do you think, Aguinaldo’s signature was not also there?

I think Aguinaldo’s signature was not also there because according to
what I read and understood he was not there at the time the Act of Declaration of
Independence was signed. Aguinaldo never showed up after he asked Felipe to
compose an original music for the June 12 proclamation of independence.
