Dakshina Kali Dhyan Mantra

This is also known as karpuradi stotram.

Meditation on Dakshina Kali – This meditation mantra is found in Kali Tantra and Tanta Sara.
Dhyanamantras are recited to sonically invoke and mentally visualize the subtle forms of deities before
meditation and worship. Dakshina Kali is an auspicious form of the Goddess with Her right foot forward.
We pray to the Lotus Feet of the Divine Mother:

करालवदनाां घोराां मुक्तकेश ां चतु र्ुजाम् ।


काललकाां दलिणाां लदव्ाां मुण्डमाला लवर्ूलिताम् ॥
Karaalvadanaam ghoraam mukta-keshiim chatur-bhujaam /
kaalikaam dakshinaam divyaam munda-maalaa vibhuushitaam // 1

सद्यः लिन्नलशरः खड् गवामाधोर्ध्ु कराम्बुजाम् ।


अर्यां वरदञ्चैव दलिणोर्ध्ाुध: पालणकाम् ॥
sadyashcchina-shirah kharga-vaamaa-dhordhva-karaam-bhujaam /
abhayaam varadan-chaiva dakshinah urdhvaadhah paanikaam // 2

Meaning: “Fierce of face, she is dark, with flowing hair and four-armed. Dakshina Kalika divine, adorned
with a garland of heads. In Her lotus hands on the left, a severed hed and a sword She bestows sanctuary and
blessings with her right hands.”

Benefit : Chanting this mantra denotes the dissolving of attachments, anger, lust, and other binding
emotions, feelings and ideas.

महामेघ प्रर्ाां श्यामाां तथा चैव लदगम्बर म् ।


कण्ठावसक्तमुण्डाल गलद् रुलधर चलचुताम् ॥
Mahaa-megha-prabhaam shyaamaam tathaa chaiva digambariim /
kanthaavatam-sataa-mundaalii galad-rudhira charchitaam // 3

Meaning: As splendorous as a huge cloud, dark, wearing space as Her garment, a garland heads hangs from
her neck dripping blood from their severed edges.

कणाुवतांसतान त शवयुग्म र्यानकाां ।


घोरदां ष्ट्ाां करालास्ाां प नोन्नत पयोधराम् ॥
karnaavatam-sataa-niita shava-yugama bhayaanakaam /
ghora-damshtraam karaalaasyaam pinion-nata payo-dharaam // 4
Meaning: Her earrings are corpses. Her gaping mouth reveals fierce teeth, and Her breasts are full

शवानाां कर सांघातै ः कृतकाञ्च हसन्मुख म् ।


सृक्कद्वयगलद् रक्तधाराां लवस्फुररताननाम् ॥
Shavaanaam kara-sanghaataih krita-kaanchiim hasan-mukhiim /
Srikkadvaya galad-rakta-dhaaraa-visphuritaanaam // 5

Meaning: The arms of corpses have been fashioned into Her girdle. Her face shines. From the corners of
Her mouth trickle red drops.

घोररावाां महारौद् ां श्मशानालय वालसन म् ।


बालकु मण्डलाकार लोचन लितयान्विताम् ॥
ghora-raavaam mahaa-raudriim shmashaanaalaya-vaasiniim /
baalaarka-mandalaa-kaara lochana-tritayanvitaam // 6

Meaning: Shouting fiercely, She is the great terrifier who dwells in the cremation ground. She is endowed
with a third eye shaped like a circle resembling the newly risen sun.

दन्तुराां दलिण व्ालप मुक्तालन्वम्बकचोच्चयाम् ।


शवरूप महादे व ह्रदयोपरर सांन्वथथताम् ॥
Danturaam dakshina-vyaapi muktaa-lamvika-cocchayaam /
Shava-ruupa-mahaa-deva-hridayo-pari-samsthitaam // 7

Meaning: Filling everywhere, She pervades the south. She is unattached. She stands upon the heart of
Mahadeva (Shiva) who lies like a corpse.

लशवालर्घोर रावालर्श्चतु लदु िु समन्विताम् ।


महाकालेन च समां लवपर त रतातु राम् ॥
shivaabhir-ghoraravaabhish-chatur-dikshu samanvitaam /
mahaa-kaalena cha samam vipariitarataaturaam // 8

Meaning: Her auspicious and dreadful shouts fill the four directions. Standing on top of Mahakala, She is
united with Him.
सुखप्रसन्न-वदनाां स्मेरानन सरोरुहाम ।
एवां सलञ्चन्तयेत् काल ां सवुकामाथु लसन्विदाम् ॥
sukha-prasanna-vadanaam smeraanana-saroruhaam /
evam samchintayet kaaliim sarva-kaamaartha-siddhidaam // 9

Meaning: Her smiling face is pleasant and peaceful. Mother Kali, the granter of righteousness, enjoyment,
wealth, and perfection, should be meditated upon in this way.
