Resultant of Coplanar Parallel Force System

The document discusses calculating the resultant of coplanar parallel force systems. It provides two example problems: 1. Calculating the resultant of four parallel forces acting on a bar AB. The resultant is 40 lb acting at 4.75 ft from A. 2. Calculating the resultant of three distributed loads acting on a beam. The resultant is 1550 lb acting at 5.03 ft from A.

RESULTANT OF COPLANAR

PARALLEL FORCE SYSTEM

Resultant of Coplanar Parallel Force System

 Parallel forces can be in the same or in opposite directions. The

sign of the direction can be chosen arbitrarily, meaning, taking
one direction as positive makes the opposite direction negative.
The complete definition of the resultant is according to its
magnitude, direction, and line of action.

Problem
 1. Determine the resultant of the parallel force
system acting on the bar AB shown below. The forces
and positions are given in the figure.
