Wooden articles should be avoided where possible, but wooden pallets will be used for deliveries and production. A paperboard layer must be placed between pallets and products to prevent wooden splinters. Tools with wooden parts like hammers require documentation when used in production, and must be checked for breakage which could contaminate products. Wood debris must be removed if possible, and contaminated products segregated and tagged as nonconforming otherwise. Pallets cannot be stored outdoors unprotected and must be clean, dry, and undamaged for production use.

Version 00 Ref: TIL/ISP/

As a general principle, the use of wooden articles shall be avoided where practicable. However, it is
acknowledged that wooden pallets or packaging will be used for the delivery of products and for holding
material during production processes.

As wooden pallets will typically be used for incoming and finished products, a paperboard layer shall be
placed between the pallet and the bottom layer of the product to protect the products from wooden
splinters.

Tools or equipment with wooden part/ handler such as hammer, broom, mop, brush shall be documented
and recorded when in use in production floor. Each wooden item shall be checked before use in production
area. In case of a breakage and fragments falls into the product, the production and packing line supervisor
shall stop the operation and segregate the particular product from others.

If the wood debris is physically removable, then workers shall remove the debris from product and
subsequently verified by Quality Control inspector. If the wood debris cannot be removed physically from
product, the contaminated product shall be segregated, tagged for identification and the procedure for
control of nonconforming products shall take effect.

Wooden pallets shall not be stored unprotected outdoors in order to avoid biological, physical and
chemical contamination.

Wooden pallets used in the production floor shall be clean, dry and in good condition without any
damage. Any dirty or broken pallet must be removed from production floor.
