TYPES OF COMPUTER

Computer can also be divided into three categories depending upon their construction and function:

1) Analog computer
2) Digital computer
3) Hybrid computer

ANALOG COMPUTER

The word analog means continuously Verying in quantity.An analog computer or analogue
computer is a type of computer that uses the continuous variation aspect of physical phenomena
such as electrical, mechanical, or hydraulic quantities to model the problem being solved.

HYBRID COMPUTER

Hybrid computers are computers that exhibit features of analog computers and digital computers.
The digital component normally serves as the controller and provides logical and numerical operations,
while the analog component often serves as a solver of differential equations and other mathematically
complex equations.

DIGITAL COMPUTER

Digital computer, any of a class of devices capable of solving problems by processing information in
discrete form. It operates on data, including magnitudes, letters, and symbols, that are expressed in

There are four types of categories of compter

1.Supercomputer
2.Mainframe Computer

3.Minicomputer

4.personal Computer

SUPER COMPUTER

A supercomputer is a computer with a high level of performance as compared to a general-purpose


computer. The performance of a supercomputer is commonly measured in floating-point operations per
second instead of million instructions per second. Since 2017, there are supercomputers which can
perform over 10¹⁷ FLOPS.

MAINFRAME COMPUTER

A mainframe computer, informally called a mainframe or big iron, is a computer used primarily by large
organizations for critical applications like bulk data processing for tasks such as censuses, industry and
consumer statistics, enterprise resource planning, and large-scale transaction processing.

MINICOMPUTER

Minicomputer, computer that was smaller, less expensive, and less powerful than a mainframe or
supercomputer but more expensive and more powerful than a personal computer. Minicomputers were
used for scientific and engineering computations, business transaction processing, file handling, and
database management

PERSONAL COMPUTER

A personal computer is a multi-purpose computer whose size, capabilities, and price make it feasible for
individual use. Personal computers are intended to be operated directly by an end user, rather than by a
computer expert or technician.

Types of personal computer

The major types of personal computer are as follows

1.Dasktop computer

2.Portable computer

3.Mobile device

DASKTOP COMPUTER

A dasktop vomputer is the most common type of personal Computer. All components of this computer
can easily fit no a dask or a table.The main component of the dasktop is pc is the system unit.

PORTABLE COMPUTER

The type of PCs can easily be carried from place to place are called portable computer. These computer
are run on rechargeable batteries, power supply,or both.

There are to types of portable computer


1. laptops
2. Tablets

MOBILE DEVICE

The small computer devices that can fit in the hand are called mobile device. These devices have small
screen and some of they have small physical keyboards.
