Chapter 1 Worksheet 1
Chapter 1 Worksheet 1
A good instructor should take care of the students individually because their unique thoughts
should be respected for their future improvements and the range of their skills should be
observed personally and should be attended accordingly.
Instructors should always be approachable as they should always be ready to listen,
providing the right to students to be heard and easy to get help from as they should never
reflect their personal problems and moods to the class.
A good instructor should always be ready to accept new approaches to skills therefore
should always be ready to renew himself in order to teach more effectively and help his
students.
They should also lead students to have leadership skills by providing them with the reletable
resources and encouraging them to lead themselves which provides the instructor to be
more skillful as a leading figure.
Lastly, they should always be ready to adapt to the change of the environment of the class
and they should always change the context when it does not fit the audience as the most
fundamental aim of the teaching is to keep the students engaged.
I think the most important of these is that an instructor should always be open to new
approaches and always should be in a quest to learn more to teach better.
Task 2:
The instructor first of all should be a model to her students in terms of the way she
speaks and the manners, so it has such importance in the eyes of the students since
they mimic and see their actions as the most legitimate.
One of the most important positions would be the position of a friend in the eyes of
the student, since we need to be always there to provide the motivation and the
empathy whenever they need the authenticity of a treasured one of theirs.
The next one is being a leader. We sometimes should not be giving out orders
bluntly for them to obey and should act according to those, but sometimes we
should act as a leader who is a part of their group and lead the way without them
actually realizing that they should be the ones ruling their own responsibilities.
Monitoring is another important position for both learning in class and outside of the
class. The instructors should monitor the tasks of the students while keeping a
distance to keep track of their process yet in some cases, the instructor should get
involved during the action of the student to not to mislead their process for them to
learn better.
Lastly, since learning a language has to have something that catches your attention
to keep you motivated to get better at it, the instructor should always have something
in hand individually for students or in the opposite way, if the student has a negative
side to be taken care of and the instructor should be there to take action also, having
something for for any situation and any individual
Task 3:
The most important characteristics the students should have are 1) they should be
practicing constantly, 2)they should be uninhibited as in they should not be afraid to
make mistakes, 3) they should be good guessers like they should try to get the
meanings from the context, 4) they should always aim for the meaning rather than
just concrete grammar rules, and last but not least 5) they should have confidence in
themselves that they will be more fluent as they proceed and in my opinion this is the
most important one the students should have because without this one they can not
even start learning to begin with and this is what will drive them into being more
fluent.
Task 4:
The needs and the goals of both adults and children always stand separate. The
way children’s brains learn is completely different from that of adults as the former’s
brain is not fully constructed yet and it is in your hands to create whatever context
with it, while on the other hand the latter has sometimes more or sometimes less
ability to process the language structure. However you should keep the classes as
interesting as possible whatever the range of age is to keep them engaged.
Task 5:
There are 7 levels of language skills.
1. Beginning Literacy in which students gain the acquisition of the language in a
really basic way if they have never had any exposure to it before.
2. Beginning Low in which students begin to learn more by listening to the
language more and trying to initiate very basic conversations, or by reading
and writing using the basic grammar they started to learn. They can
understand basic commands given to them and respond to them in a simple
way.
3. Beginning High after having completed the former level, now the students can
start initiating real life conversations for their immediate needs and
responsibilities.
4. Intermediate Low after the first 3 levels, now the students can speak about
things more than their survival needs. In everyday life, they can express
themselves without needing any help, moreover they can talk about their
experiences or their future goals.
5. Intermediate High now the students can solve their own problems and the
ones in their environment, they can talk about cultural similarities and
differences. They can now support their ideas or oppose others by writing
essays and can do analyses in the target language by writing reports.
6. Advanced Low at this level the student can self detect their own mistakes and
they can now start getting into more complex sentences and the use of native
patterns are being picked up. They can talk about regrets and unreal
situations or even certain future predictions. They can convey opinions and
sentences to others in the words of their own interpretation by themselves.
7. Advanced Low 7 English for academic or business purposes are observed at
this level with the need of both writing and speaking skills, now they start
reviewing all their knowledge of their target language and try to polish more.
They can conduct research and produce their own, they mostly possess the
knowledge about native culture and natural phrases.
