Good morning everyone I am assigned today to discuss Action Research Definition and

Implementation. I attended a 3 days face to face seminar workshop of Araling Panlipunan


and EsP regarding doing Action Research last November of 2021.
To start with, let’s have our objectives:
1. Define Action Research in the context of teaching process
2. Enumerate the 5 steps that operationalize the Action Research Framework
3. Cite the importance of Review of Literature in formulating an intervention of Action
Research
4. Generate Topics for Action Research
As a teacher, there are many opportunities for us to do a very good research. One of the
attitude of doing research is the OPPORTUNITY TO DO RESEARCH… Let’s compare the
attitude of doing research with one hand.
THUMB (hinlalaki)- it means HIDE, ESCAPE, FLIGHT- because I don’t want to do it (ayokong
magresearch) LUMALAYO.
INDEX- (hintuturo)-point to others because Im not good enough to do a research.
MIDDLE- (hinlalato)- Standby and wait because I still checking myself the situation. (Iche-
check ko muna mam, sir kung kaya ko)
RING FINGER (Palasingsingan)- I’ll act because I know, I can (Committed)
PINGKY FINGER- I need to learn more but I can do it anyway.
Our dear Admin. and teachers, where we are now when it comes to the eagerness of doing
action research? Ikaw ba ay hinlalaki, hintuturo, hinlalato, palasingsingan, or pingky finger?
Another attitude of doing a research is thru AWARENESS..
The question is how knowledgeable are we when it comes to the current events we have
today?
It is said to be easy to find out what is going on around us through the use of social media.
But we know that there are advantages and disadvantages of using it.
One of the advantages of social media is the easy interaction or communication.
And the misuse of social media is just one of its disadvantages.
let's look at examples of current events especially when it comes to attitudes.
-In ancient times it was easy to discipline children, fearful of parents or elders.
-nowadays it is difficult to discipline children
In other words, you discover the needs through awareness. Kung may awareness malalaman
natin ang PROBLEMA.
And the last attitude of doing a research is MOTIVATION…
When we say motivation, it has been generally viewed as the ENERGY TO DRIVE that more
people to do something by nature. In other words…nawawalan ng saysay kung hindi tayo
motivated.
Remember there are 2 aspects of motivation.
1. Initiating Motivation- (sisimulan mo, mayroon kang reasons for doing something).
2. Sustaining Motivation- (effort of an enduring-ipagpapatuloy mo)
One example of to sustain the motivation is the hospitals in the Philippines. Tignan natin ang
Philippine General Hospital, NKTI, Philippine Children Hospital at Lung Centers of the
Philippines. They are institutionalized by building infrastructure for research. Nagsimula ang
mga hospital na ito thru an action research. May nasimulan….at may natapos…pero pwede
nating baligtarin, kung wala ang mga hospital nay an maaaring may magsisimula pero hindi
natapos.

REAL TALK…WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES IN DOING AN ACTION RESEARCH?


1. Lack of support and resources to do research-the above authority need to be
institutionalized doing research such as giving seminars and training workshop in order
to empower and equipped the teachers in technical aspect. Another thing is to train
teachers in their expertise as statistician, grammarian, giving support like printer, laptop
and etc.
Remember, opportunity and awareness…let us discover the needs which them to
build the initial motivation, sustaining the drive depends on the availability of
support via institutionalizing research infrastructure.

-in doing research dapat may monitoring, may assistance, remember andyan na yung
technical knowledge ang wala sa atin ang ENTHUSIASM na gumawa ng research.
Remember, research is the soul of education, it is a continuous process and an
educators expression of gratitude.

Now let's start discussing what exactly is action research? WRITE WORDS THAT DEFINES
ACTION RESEARCH? (encourage the audience to share their ideas)
So everything you said about action research is correct. (IPAKITA YUNG SLIDE)
In a simply definition of ACTION RESEARCH based on the Department of Education. AR is a
process of systematic and reflecting inquiry that aims to improve educational process,
resolve problems in the classrooms or in a school that isa based on Dep.Ed Order no. 16
series of 2017.
AR also deal with uncovering solutions in classrooms and school problems that involves
methodical, logical and organized activities that result outcomes like enhancement of
classroom and school practices.
--Sa madaling salita, sa paggawa ng AR, mayroon tayong sinusunod na proseso.
--Reflective Inquiry- Bakit hindi natututo ang bata kahit naituro mo na ang lahat
-Reflection, Inquiry)-Bakit sa iba effective, bakit sa akin hindi?
So we need to IMPROVE the educational process, we need to RESOLVE, problems in the
classrooms or in the school.
At ang lahat ng solusyon at makakaresolve ng problema ay TAYO---Head Teachers and
Teachers…sa paanong paraan???? Through a series methodological, logical and organized
activities.
There are different types of action research: innovation, strategy, intervention ( ito yung 3
types ng AR na pwedeng i-oofer sa atin).
And now lets proceed to the UNDERSTANDING THE REVIEW OF LITERATURE…
For those who have completed the Masteral Degree and currently doing their thesis, we
already know what is the review of literature.
What has already been done to solve the specific classroom or school problem or issue that
you want to focus in your investigation. (yung dating research ay maaaring hindi na
applicable ngayon, pero itong mga previous studies ay gagawin mong basic foundation sa
paglikha mo ng action research.)
TANONG: Makakatulong ba ang dating research? YES maaari mong mai-compare and study
noon sa study ngayon. So in understanding review of literature…you will help to GUIDES IN
FORMULATION OF THE RESEARCH QUESTIONS…
You can assist action researcher using decisions like suitable and applicable research design
and to obtain some idea on how many students, participants should be included and which
date collection techniques be appropriate for the variables of the study.
Thru understanding the review of literature…you will provide directions to collect data , it
can also provide insights and guides in the citation in order to support you in findings of the
Action Research.
Lets proceed to STEPS in Conducting Action Research:
1. IDENTIFY THE RESEARCH PROBLEM- Specify a problem or issue. Ex. MPS, Non-
Submission of Ouputs)
2. DESIGN THE ACTION RESEARCH- Develop a rationale of justification 9alamin mo para
saan? Bakit ito ang dapat pag-aralan? State the importance of the study to the
stakeholders (mahalaga ba ito sa stakeholders? Sino yung tinutukoy na
stakeholders? BATA…TEACHER.)
3. COLLECT THE DATA FOR ACTION RESEARCH
4. ANALYZE AND INTERPRET DATA
5. WRITE THE ACTION RESEARCH REPORT.

Brief Example:

“BIDYO-LEKTURA”, Istratehiya sa Paglinang sa Antas ng Kasanayan ng mga Mag-aaral sa


Araling Panlipunan 10 sa New Normal.

1. Identify the Research Problem- Antas ng Kasanayan ng mga Mag-aaral sa Araling


Panlipunan 10.

2. Design an Action Research- Bidyo-Lektura

3. Collect Data from Action Research- Pre-Test and Post-Test


-bago ka magbigay ng Bidyo-lektura (Pre-Test)
-Intervies
-Survey

4.Analyze and Interpret Data- graph, table, t-test (seek help from the Math Teacher)

5. Write the Action Research Report- thru narrative report, detailed research report

Problem Statement- Malinang ang antas ng kasanayan ng mga mag-aaral sa AP 10 sa New


Normal gamit ang Bidyo-Lektura.

Research Question-

1. Ano ang antas ng kasanayan ng mga mag-aaral sa AP 10 bago at pagkatapos gamitin ang
Bidyo-Lektura?

2. Napataas ba ang antas ng kasanayan ng mga mag-aaral sa AP10 gamit ang bidyo-
lektura?
Importance of AR for Educational Stakeholders (Benefits)

Remember in doing basic education action research , there are agenda and themes to be
observe.

For the teachers- It focus on Teaching and Learning

For the Guidance- It focus on Child Protection

For the Admin- It focus on Governance

For the HR- It focus on Human Resource Development

So it means, walang exemption sa paggawa ng AR, lahat tayo ay pwedeng gumawa ng sarili
nating AR.
