The Structural and Political Frames of the organization

Structural frame is mainly a task-orientated frame. It concentrates on strategy,

setting measurable goals, clarifying task, responsibilities and reporting lines, agreeing

metrics and deadlines and creating systems and procedures. In this frame, principals

have their hands on the gears needed to create reliable responses and to apply

structural fixes.

On the other hand, political frame addresses the problem of individuals and

interest groups having sometimes conflicting agenda especially at times when budgets

are limited and the organization have to make difficult choices. In this frame, principals

develop the voices of the staff who can influence the team, they consciously engage

supporters and build cohorts who will hang tough through new initiatives. They know

who to contact before presenting a plan to a large group.

Each of us has a natural frame to look at situations . The leader may use one

leadership frame for a time, and then switch to another. The leader may also combine

and use a number of frames, at the same time. To increase ones effectiveness as

leaders, they should look at the situation through more than one frame. Indeed, the

solution to a problem is often found by looking at the potential impacts from the different

perspectives defined by the frames. Frame works well in every circumstance, then a

leader who sticks with one frame is said to act inappropriately and ineffectively. Instead,

it is the leader's responsibility to use the appropriate frame of reference for each

challenge.
