II. INTRODUCTORY CONCEPT

A viewpoint is a way of looking at something. It is also called “point of view”.

Everyone has a viewpoint maybe different from others. Learning the role of viewpoint
and understanding that each person has a unique point of view is an important thinking
skill. It is not only important to become comfortable sharing your own viewpoint, but
you must also be willing to listen to, and learn from the viewpoints of others. Your
viewpoint is stronger when there is evidence to support it.
How to Compose a Coherent Report on Differing Viewpoints on an Issue
1. The report must have a single generalization that serves as the focus of attention, that is, a topic
sentence.
2. A writer must control the content of every other sentence in the report’s body such that:
It contains more specific information than the topic sentence, and it maintains the same
focus of attention as the topic sentence.

Commonly used expressions for opinions

In my opinion… In my point of view…
I think…. Maybe…
Perhaps… I suppose…. etc.
In reporting a differing viewpoint, start with a topic sentence which states a claim
that opposes your view. Begin with a transition that shows contrast like however,
nevertheless, on the contrary, on the other hand, rather, or, yet, conversely, at the same
time, while this may be true....
You can present your report using the following suggested report formats:
1. Online report using web apps such as Facebook Comments, Facebook
Messenger, Blogs, and e-mail
2. Simple Essay
3. Letter/ informational text

In highly polluted areas, particularly in winter, surface ozone can be destroyed by
nitrogen oxides, so ozone levels can increase when nitrogen dioxide goes down. As a
result, although air quality has largely improved in many regions, surface ozone can

The improvements in air quality will likely be temporary, but the findings give
scientist a glimpse into what air quality could be like in the future as emissions

However, the drop of nitrogen dioxide pollution has caused an increase in
surface ozone levels in China. Ozone is a secondary pollutant formed when sunlight and
high temperature catalyze chemical reactions in the lower atmosphere. Ozone is harmful

 Practice Task 1

DISTANCE LEARNING

Distance Learning is a method of study where teachers and students do not meet
in a classroom but use modules, internet, e-mails radio and others, has been the hottest
issue in the Philippines as to how Department of Education will implement the different
learning modalities in the new normal.
Parents became hesitant in sending their children to school for fear that their
children will be infected with the coronavirus. The government as well as the
Department of Education laid plans to continue learning despite the threat of the virus.
They came out with different learning modalities, and distance learning is one of the
options.
Distance Learning is a means of learning delivery wherein parents become their
children’s academic teachers at home. It is an educational option which is very flexible
because the teaching and learning process can be done anywhere else they feel
convenient.
● What is your point of view about distance learning as a learning
option in the “new normal”. As a pupil, how do you feel about it? Are
you comfortable with this new normal educational system? or do you
find difficulty in coping with this new situation?

A. Since the covid 19 pandemic created chaos in the Philippines and other parts of
the world , children were not permitted to go out.. They were confined in their
houses. Doctors and experts said that children and old aged people are prone to
the virus.

Below is an example of a facebook post about the activities of children under

quarantine. Being a child under the same situation how can your time be more
productive? Write your comments on this Facebook post. Be sure to use any of the
transition words such as: however, nevertheless, on the contrary, on the other hand,
rather, or, yet, at the same time, while this may be true.... when you express opposing
point of views.

take time to give your viewpoints on the issue. If you have not experienced playing this
game, you can ask/collaborate with your older siblings or your friends, gather ideas from
them about their opinions on the issue.
Use the appropriate expressions like: in my opinion, perhaps, maybe, I think
and the transtion words in expessing opposing viewpoints such as: yet, however, instead
of, at the same time etc.
Organize your ideas using the suggested graphic organizer, then write a coherent
