Dhoni' ended India's long search for a wicket-keeper who could also bat, and

he now has the most number of dismissals(150) in ODIs and Tests by an


Indian keeper. His arrival in Indian cricket has been a story of unparalleled
success.

He started his career as a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) in Indian


Railways. His hard work and never-give-up spirit finally landed him in
International Cricket in 2004. Dhoni was a part of India's first-ever Twenty20
international match. He made debut against South Africa in December 2006. 

In 2007, he led the team a whopping victory in ICC T-20 World Cup. He
continues to inspire the younger generation with his glorious captaincy,
and out of the box thinking.

Dhoni started making rounds for his cool attitude – something we all must
aspire to learn. We would find him with a smile even in the toughest of games.
This led to his appointment as India's captain for the inaugural T20 WC and
this is when Dhoni got the title of "captain cool" as his calm leadership
steered India to victory. 

After winning the inaugural T20 WC, Dhoni became the ODI captain after
Rahul Dravid abandoned the post, and finally, rose to the full-time Test
captaincy once Anil Kumble retired.

Arguably he is the best ever captain for the Men In Blue in all formats, along
with his brilliant captaincy, MS Dhoni has set some unachievable records in
his name such as most wins by an Indian captain in Tests and ODIs, and most
back-to-back wins by an Indian captain in ODIs. 

Dhoni is the only wicket-keeper captain who has led his team in more 100
international matches. He has captained India in a total of 331 matches (60
Tests, 199 ODIs and 72 T20Is) which is the highest by any captain across all
the formats of the game. Out of these, Dhoni has won 110 ODI matches
as captain of India. As a captain, he has hit the most international
sixes which is 204.

Under his captaincy, India won the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, the CB Series
of 2007-08, the 2010 Asia Cup, the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup and the 2013
ICC Champions Trophy. He became the first captain to win all three ICC
limited-overs trophies.

In the Indian Premier League, he captained the Chennai Super Kings to


victory along with wins in Champions League Twenty20.
Dhoni has been the recipient of many awards, including the ICC ODI Player
of the Year award in 2008 and 2009 the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award in
2007 and the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian honor, in 2009.

Although Dhoni's fierce captaincy helped India achieve success, eight back-
to-back Test losses against England and Australia overseas put his image as
a Test batsman and captain in question. His Test captaincy came under
severe criticism. 

In 2014, he announced his retirement from Test cricket. On 4th January


2017, Dhoni stepped down as the captain of the Indian ODI and T20I team.

And, in 2016, a biopic M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story was made on him.
