Disaster Readiness and Risk Reduction

1) The document discusses risk factors underlying disasters including poverty and inequality, climate change, rapid urbanization, and lack of disaster risk management. 2) It provides examples of different risk factors such as deforestation leading to landslides, sea level rise and flooding in low-lying coastal cities, and informal settlements exposed to garbage slides. 3) The document aims to increase understanding of risk factors underlying disasters in order to better mitigate their effects through preparedness and risk reduction measures.

and the lack of disaster risk considerations in land management and
environmental and natural resource management, as well as compounding
factors such as non disaster risk-informed policies, the lack of regulations
and incentives for private disaster risk reduction investment.

3 Things I learned

2 I learned to describe each risk factors underlying disasters
3 I also learned to appreciate the importance of understanding the risk
factors underlying disasters to mitigate the effects of disaster and practice
mitigation measures as early as necessary.
2 Things I found interesting
1 Identifying risk factors
2 understanding factors which underline disasters
1 question I have
1 what is the effect/s of disaster on humans and on the environment?
Activity 1.4 Am I Ready?
Good day to each and everyone i’m here to give knowledege to all you and
also to give awareness or apprehension on the risk factors underlying
disasters so that all of you will be equipped with knowledge on how to mitigate
the effects of a disaster.
The different risk factors are associated to the the process where
development is influence by the different level of disaster risk{Disaster risk is
expressed as the likelihood of loss of life, injury or destruction and damage
from a disaster in a given period of time} through the increasing level of
exposure and vulnerability.
The following are the different disaster which are referred o the underlying
disasters;
Poverty and inequality- which is highly- evident and until now the government
and private sectors are working hand in hand to be able to address this since
not all citizens are aware of their own responsibility to help themselves be
elevated in the situation, job opportunities are not that enough also.
Climate Change- we are facing a lot of environmental issues now a days and
again we are challenge to take actions as Stewards of God's Creation.
Dealing with the air, water and other forms of pollution contributing to the
disaster of our Ozone layer.
Rapid Urbanization- a lot of developments where constructed like building
more commercial buildings, condominiums, housings and resorts which mean
that a number of our land areas have been utilized and abused at the same
time.
Disaster Risk Management- mostly not all are oriented/ informed about
dealing the different disaster risk. Not all interested to serve and be an agent
to others.
I hope I have given a little knowledge and awareness or apprehension. That’s
all and good day.
