Re: Statement of Purpose to study Office Administration-Health Services

Dear Visa Officer,

My name is Alyka Grace Q. Cosca, 21 years old, single, and a resident of Sto. Niño,
Malabuyoc, Cebu, Philippines. I was born on the 22nd of November 1999. We are six in the
family, including my parents and I am the eldest among the four children. My parents were
both overseas Filipino worker before and decided to come home in the Philippines, with their
own savings they established a business which was a van rental since the tourism industry
during that time was escalating given that our province was one of the hottest tourist spot in
the Philippines. When the Covid-19 pandemic hits, it stop the business of my parents, however
they have decided to venture in animal breeding and started our own humble farm in which we
breed pigs and chickens. Our family then has become one of the local producers of fresh and
organic meats in our municipality. In my family I have three siblings, two girls and one boy. The
sibling next to me is a third year college student taking the course of nursing in one of the
college institutions here in the Philippines. While, the third one is currently a grade 11 senior
high school student specializing in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Strand.
The youngest which also happens to be the only boy is currently enrolled as a grade 9 student
in a semi-private institution. I also have a loving and supportive aunt whom I consider as my
second mother, she was always there just one call away in every ups and downs in my life. She
is also a citizen in Canada and the one who offers me to study there for me achieve a better
futurity. She works as a healthcare worker (PCA) in the City of Toronto Long Term Care Homes.
My aunt would be the major source of financial support for my study and other expenses
related to my forthcoming stay in Canada.

As for my educational background, I have always been diligent to my studies. In 2016, I


completed Junior High School on Saint Peter Academy of Alegria, Inc. in Alegria, Cebu garnering
3rd in Academic Excellence award. In the same institution, I took up Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Mathematics Strand under academic track for Senior High School. In 2018, I
graduated with an Academic Excellence for High Honors award. In addition to that, I was also a
recipient of the ‘Journalist of the Year’ as well as ‘Athlete of the Year’ award. For years, I’ve had
been active outside of the classroom doing some volunteering in the community and engaging
in extracurricular activities. I was a student leader, a table tennis athlete and a member of the
school publication. To be involved in such organizations allow me to see the significance of
teamwork, leadership, and most of all connection to the community.
When I was in senior high school one of the subjects that we have was Work Immersion
wherein we were exposed to and become familiar with occupations related to our dream
career. Along with other nine students I was selected to do some observations in a private
hospital for 14 days. During that duration, I was stationed in different departments every after
two days, one of the section that perk my interest was the Administration office. I realized by
that time that it’s a very essential section in a hospital to successfully deliver a quality
healthcare to the people. The activities I was able to carry out were performing bookkeeping,
organizing files, assisting and scheduling appointments for the clients in which I was supervised
with an employee. After the whole experience, it has enlighten me what career path I would
like to pursue since I haven’t decided yet what course I’ll be proceeding in college but I want to
work in healthcare setting. Due to that happening I was inspired to utilize what I learned in
helping my parents in their business of van rentals such as receiving calls and making an
appointments to their respective clients as well as applying the bookkeeping technique. Up
until now I am the one who does the invoices for our business. And I came to realized that I
need more knowledge that’s why I decided to took up Office Administration-Health Services.

Pursuing an international education is certainly a life-changing step. Not only will it


boost my professional development, it will also help me grow personally. I’ve always believed
that a good education equates to having a bright future. In spite of the fact that the Philippines
has a long list of prestigious universities, it is undeniable that the education system abroad is
much better in all aspects. Apart from that, starting anew and experiencing other people’s
culture firsthand will surely enlighten me to have a deeper understanding of life itself.
Moreover, I chose Canada as the host country for my studies owing to the following reasons.
Canada’s education system is globally acknowledged for its excellent quality. Unlike any other
countries that offer world-class education, Canada is a haven for international students because
of its diversity, welcoming locals and practical cost of living not to mention a peaceful nation
with superb health care facilities. At the same time, it has breathtaking nature and vibrant cities
where one can explore while in there. Canada has everything that I had been looking for, but
there are still plenty of things that yet to be seen; ergo, making it the perfect setting to obtain
knowledge and sharpen my potentials that would be beneficial in the future.

I have chosen to apply in Centennial College because it provides high quality of


Education. Going through the school’s official website, its vision, mission, values, and priorities
appealed to me completely. Centennial College also highlights how they are an institution that
‘transform lives and communities through learning’ which is a good factor to look at because it
implies how they handle student’s different learning capacity and still made sure the latter
progress with them. Having had the opportunity to study in a place that doesn’t only offers
world-class education but also provides quality education through innovation, collaboration and
flexibility would be beneficial in my career development.

I am thankful and honored to Centennial College for sending me their letter of


acceptance dated August 25, 2021 to study Office Administration - Health Services. This letter
will help me to take a big leap to start my advocacies for my country. Improvement is needed
and better management is the key. The tuition fee amounts to 16, 995.96 CAD and we have
already paid the first semester payment of CAD 8,497. My parents and my aunt is more than
willing enough to pay my tuition fee in exchange in all the leanings I will gain from their
program.

After completion of the program, I will go back to my home country, Philippines to apply
for a higher position suitable to my educational attainment in Canada preferably in one of the
sought-after hospitals in Cebu and also to attain my long term dream which is to set up my own
healthcare in our town that helps and uplift the people in achieving their optimal health. As I
will be already equipped with the knowledge and expertise by then, I would be more
competent and confident in working at any administrative role.

Aside from the good opportunity that awaits me, I sincerely would like to give back to
my parents by taking care of them. They are not getting any younger and I do believe that
seeing me being successful with my chosen profession equipped by proper knowledge at the
same time seeing me staying by their side are the reasons that could fill their hearts with joy
and fulfilment. This is the way I want it to be, taking care of them, provide their needs and
showing them how I love by staying by their side is my way of giving back for everything they
have done for me. I would also love to return after my studies in Canada for my siblings. I would
be delighted to be present in every important stepping stones in the lives of my siblings
that they will accomplish for it is my pride and joy as their elder sibling seeing them happy and
successful. As an end result of this pursuit I would like to return as a leader who will pioneer
new ideas, who will inspire the Philippine Community into a higher level of support system in
the hospital administration, who will instill the value of teamwork in working together
diligently, who will work selflessly to help the clients and patients in providing the best health
services available, giving some Filipinos chance for a healthy and productive life.

I believe that this is one of the promising decisions I have ever made in my entire Life.
To be at my very best and excellence to learn with diverse people and diverse culture towards
quality education that will benefit me in the near future. With this I pray and humbly asking for
your kind consideration that I be granted a student permit that will allow me to join the January
2022 batch in Centennial College. I am hoping for positive outcome regarding such request.
