Glass Protector To Be Installed in The Windshield and Window Part of The Car

The document proposes installing glass protectors on the windshields and windows of cars. A group of 5 students will lead the project. Glass protectors are made of tough, optically clear polyester film and adhesives that are laminated between the inner and outer glass. They are meant to prevent glass shards from entering the vehicle and injuring occupants in the event of an accident by holding broken glass together. The protectors will be installed by car technicians and the student group. Their goal is to reduce injuries from car accidents by containing shattered glass within the protector.

II. Rationale

One of the problem that the Philippines’ facing is the increasing rate of car

accidents, and numerous of it, happens on the road. According to the World Health

Organization’s data in 2017, which is the latest, road traffic or automobile accidents has almost

reached to 10, 767 or 1.74%.A result that shows that roads are becoming more dangerous than

before. Eventhough there are seminars or simpotium provided by the government to prevent or

lessen accidental rates, it is still not enough to avoid death from meeting an accident. Therefore,

the group decided to propose a project that will initially focus on a fixed material that will be on

use in every day transportation. The project is all about reducing the possibility of road crash

accidents. It is about the information of a car accessory that is called “glass protector”.

According to the World Health Organization (2018),it is mostly due to its speed, distraction,

drunk driving, reckless driving, and even rain that it occurs so sudden they cannot even avoid it.

Parts of the car are all deadly to the driver and the passenger/s also, such as tires, car brakes, a

car’s broken machine, and the wrong use of headlights, but one of the deadliest part of the car

when it met an accident, is the glass or the windshield and the windows. After the car gets hit by

another car or something really hard, pieces of broken mirror starts to fly over the driver and

his/her passenger that directly cause a huge damage, and even worst, death to both individuals.

As the group did their research, they came up with the proposal creating a cover that can be

pasted on the windshield and windows of the car to lessen the harm and damage if, in any case,

meets an accident. It is the Glass Protector that is made up of security film windows where in it

Is manufactured froms in gleers of tough, optically clear polyester film, together with special

adhesives. The polyester film and special adhesives will be put on the upper and lower sheet of

the glass and will undergo through the laminating machine. It is a protector that cannot be cut

but fractures into small, relatively harmless pieces that even if you hit something hard or dealt

with an accident, it will not shatter into pieces like a normal window or glass that might cause

your death, so it is highly recommended to use by the drivers.

Since accidents deals with speed, one of the concept used is the third law of

Newton’s, the Law of Acceleration. The glass protector, even if it meant to protect and reduce

harm to the driver, will still be able to break and crushed if the speed is beyond human control.

Second is the Collision in momentum, since there are two types of collision. First is the elastic

collision, wherein the “total kinetic energy of the system does not change and colliding objects

bounce off after collision” (Pople, 1996). Being said, the project or the glass protector, after a

collision, might only bounce off with deliberately normal speed. Second type is the inelastic

collision, where “one in which the total kinetic energy of the system changes” (Pople, 1996) or

converted to some kind of energy. With it, the glass protector can only convert its energy to itself

and must only produce a crack.

Security window films adhere to the interior of the glass to act as protective

layers to help secures hards and splinters if the glasss hatter. In Israel, airports, malls, countless

buses, schools and hospitals are secured by Hanita Security Films. Tough, dependable, life-

saving. Evenit’s dangerous, it’s good to know where Hanita Security Films are installed. The

Safety Zone range of safety and security window film transforms the most vulnerable and

threatening area of your home and work place into a more secure environment. The installation

of the right Security window film can minimize the threat of glass related injury resulting from

impact, collision, blast, car accidentsor natural disaster. In theinner-city, where there is a high

concentration of glass fronted buildings and shop-windows, the threat of terrorist attack,

vandalism and robbery demands a greater level of protection provided by 8 and 12 mil Security

Films. In areas in the shadow of potentially explosive sites such as oil refineries, gas tanks and

industrial areas, 8 and 12 mil Security Films can offer a greater protection.

In regions where the potential for disaster originates from natural threats, such as hurricane

damage, severe storm or earthquakes, 12 mil Security Films help save lives.

On streets and car parks where violent crime and smash-and-grabincidents are rampant, 4mil

security films and thicker help protect passengers from flying glass fragments and delay

criminals from entering vehicles. Security Films can help protect from injury and property

damage by firmly adhering most of the broken glass to the film, minimizing the dispersal off

ragments and splinters, saving life and protecting.

III. Description

The product will be clear and thin so that the drivers will not have a hard time

seeing their surroundings. The glass protector itself is the one that will be stickered at the

part of the windshield and windows of the vehicle. The glass protector will not be visible

for the people outside the car. Because of it's transparent color it will appear like there is

no change in car windows and windshields

The glass protect or will protect or prevent the scattered glasses to go to the driver or

passenger/s inside the car. The glass protector have a very high capacity in holding the big force

that the accident may give. The main point of the glass protect or is that it will prevent the

scattered pieces of the glass of the wind shield and windows to lessen the injuries that may occur

to the driver or passenger/s.

It will be installed in the windshield and window part of the car. The glass protector will

be stickered inside the car where the windshield and window are. It should be installed inside

because it will be the one to protect or lessen the injury that may occur to the person inside by

preventing the scattered glasses to go inside the car.

The glass protector will prevent the scattered pieces of glass of the windshield and

window of the car to go inside. It will support the wind shield and windows if it will scattered. It

is like an umbrella that will prevent the scattered glass to go inside the car and cause injury to the

driver or passenger/s.

IV. Goal

We are planning to install a glass protector which is made out of security film window in

windshield and window part of the car. The output will be checked for a couple of times to avoid

complain and errors and also a test will be done to check if the glass protector will work

properly. We are also planning to propose it to different auto shops, malls and companies. A

proposal will be sent to the DPWH which deals with the maintenance of roads and bridges, and

major flood control systems, LTO which is mandated to all of the land transportation because

these government has knowledge about the said proposal about the project we would like to be

approved. Lastly, its main goal is to help the driver by protecting his/her face or body by getting

hit of the broken pieces from the windshield and window that might harm the driver or even

cause his/her death and to lessen injuries by keeping away the glass shards from splashing to the

driver and to the passenger/s.

VIII. Process

Making of the Glass Protector:

Introduce the experimentation

The group needs to propose the experimentation to the car brands. The group will

prepare all the materials that are needed like manuals, brochures, and etc. The company stuffs

need to follow the manufacturer’s directions and instructions.

How was the product done

The polyester film and special adhesives will be put on the upper and local sheet

of glass and will be put under the laminating glass machine. The glass protector is the one that

will be stickered at the part of the windshield and windows of the vehicle. It is not visible for the

people who are outside the car and because of its color which is transparent, it doesn’t affect the

physical appearance of the windows. The glass protector will be stickered inside the car where

the windshield and window are.

Explain furthermore information

The company stuffs need to follow the manufacturer’s directions and

instructions. The group will explain further more when the company accepts the invention.

Application:

Find a clean and dry work place

You need to find a clean and dry work place. Remove any stickers or adhesives

from the windshield or windows to prevent having problems with the film sticking. Use

vacuum to get rid of the dust.

Clean up the window by using soapy water

A spray bottle is highly recommended. Take a clean rag and dry the window. A

squeegee will help you get the window completely dry. Place the glass protector over the

outside of the window so that it covers the entire window.

Cut away a manageable piece of glass protector

You need to have a few inches of extra glass in every direction. Use a knife or

blade to cut the excess.

Spray the front of the film with water

Spray the front of the film with water so that the entire thing is covered in a thin

layer of soapy water.

Take your knife and cut the edges

After you paste, use a knife or cutter to cut the edges in left or right side. Use your fingers

and put a hard edge to press the bottom of the glass protector up to the front.

Smooth out the window to prevent air bubbles

Smooth out the window with hard edge, pulling all the water and air bubbles towards the

sides. Continue spraying the glass protector to make sure it will stick on the windows.
