CLASS: IV MATHEMATICS
CHAPTER # 6 – MULTIPLES (Part-1)

Multiples: We can find the multiples of a number by multiplying it by 1, 2, 3, 4 and so on ...

Important facts of multiples are:
 A number is a multiple of itself.
 Every number is a multiple of 1.
 Every multiple of a number is greater than or equal to the number itself.
 There is no end to the multiples we can get of a particular number.
To find out whether one number is a multiple of another:
 If we divide two numbers and there is no remainder, means the number is a multiple of
the other number.
Eg: Is 78 a multiple of 3?
26
378
-6
18
-18
0
The remainder is zero.
Therefore, 78 is a multiple of 3.
 If the number does not divide the other number exactly, so it is not a multiple of the
other number.
Eg: Is 93 a multiple of 7?

13
793
-7
23
- 21
2

The remainder is not zero

Therefore, 93 is not a multiple of 7.

2) Answer the following in Yes or No

a) 48 is a multiple of 3
16
348
-3
18
- 18
0

The remainder is 0.
Therefore, 48 is a multiple of 3

Ans: 48 is a multiple of 3 = Yes

b) 72 is a multiple of 6
12
672
-6
12
- 12
0

The remainder is 0
Therefore, 72 is a multiple of 6

Ans: 72 is a multiple of 6 = Yes

c) 96 is a multiple of 6
16
6 96
-6
36
- 36
0

The remainder is 0
Therefore, 96 is a multiple of 6

Ans: 96 is a multiple of 6 = Yes

d) 38 is a multiple of 4
9
