WHEEL EXCAVATOR

This worksheet is available for recording PDI (Pre-Delivery Inspection) notes at the point of inspection. Dealers may find it useful to use this worksheet to create the permanent record of each
PDI inspection, either on paper or as an electronic file. The completed checklist must be attached to a SIMS report, indicating the completion of the PDI and supporting the continuous product
quality improvement efforts.

1. If the machine was in storage, the engine needs pressure lubrication before it is started.
2. For cold weather starts, see Cold Weather Operation FORM SEBU 5898.
3. All Safety Product Improvement Programs (PIP) must be completed.
4. Explanations for this form are in Special Instruction FORM SEHS 8298.
5. Prior to PDI operate the machine to bring the oil to operating temperature using all functions.

ENGINE
Paint Look for damage, cracks and breaks, dents, distortion, unpainted
surface, rust, etc.
Damage Look for bent tubes, linkages, sheet metal cracks, dents, and parts-out-of-
alignment
Oil Check for cleanliness, no debris and at appropriate level.
Coolant Check for cleanliness, no debris and at appropriate level.
Fuel Check for cleanliness, no debris and at appropriate level.
Batteries Make sure cable connections are tight and battery caps are in place.

Main Disconnect Turn the switch to the off and on position and verify correct function.
Switch
Air Filter(s) Visually inspect filter(s) for correct installation.
If so equipped, drain water from separator. If water in separator, then

check for water in fuel tank.
Grease Fittings Check for cleanliness, no debris.
Priming Pump Mechanical pump on 3056E: Move plunger in and out to make sure the
pump works.
Electrical pump on 3054E: Check correct harness connection and
function.
Governor Control Move governor through full range after engine is warm. Assure throttle
controls the engine. Check RPMs at max throttle speed.

Air Cleaner Inspect to assure wire connection to pressure switch.


Indicator
Leaks - Oil Carefully inspect the engine area for leaks. Look for leaks at
connections, seals, etc.
Leaks - Fuel Carefully inspect the engine area for leaks. Look for leaks at
connections, seals, etc.
Leaks - Coolant Carefully inspect the engine area for leaks. Look for leaks at
connections, seals, etc.
Friction on Hoses Look for hoses with improper routing or contact.

Friction on Wires Look for contact of wires with sharp edges or steel braided hoses.

Loose Wire Look for any loose wires or connectors.


Connections
Loose or missing Inspect nuts, bolts, clips, clamps, etc. Look for loose or missing
fasteners fasteners.
A/C Compressor Check for correct belt tension.

Grease Fittings Check swing bearing nipples and tubes intact.
Hoses, Lines and Look for hoses, lines, harnesses with incorrect routing, contact or

connections, seals, etc.

STEERING / BRAKES
Grease Fitting Check for cleanliness, no debris.
Leaks - Oil etc.
Hoses, lines and Look for hoses, lines, harnesses with incorrect routing,
harnesses contact or damage.
Loose or Lost Inspect nuts, bolts, clips, etc. Look for loose or missing
Fasteners fasteners.
CHASSIS & UNDERCARRIAGE
Sheet Metal Look for dents, bends, bad welds, missing fasteners, or bad fit.
Paint Look for damage, cracks and breaks, dents, distortion, unpainted
surface, rust, overspray, etc.
Damage Look for bent tubes, linkages, sheet metal cracks, dents, and parts-out-of-
alignment.
Door - Locks & Open and close all enclosure doors. Check for correct fit, and easy
Latches operation. Operate all latches and all locks with keys. Check each
locking action.
Loose or missing Inspect nuts, bolts, clips, clamps, etc. Look for loose or missing
fasteners fasteners.
Welds Inspect welds for defects, especially cracks.
HYDRAULIC
Hydraulic Pumps, Inspect for paint scratches or damage, loose/missing fasteners and
Motors and Valves leaks.

Cylinder Rods Inspect the rod surfaces for scratches or other damage to chrome, rust,
or paint sprays.
Hydraulic Tanks Check for cleanliness, no debris and at appropriate level.
Hydraulic Filters Check for damage and leaks. Check correct wire connection to filter
restriction indicator.
Leaks - Oil Carefully inspect the hydraulic area for leaks.

CAB OR CANOPY
Sheet Metal Look for dents, bends, bad welds, missing fasteners, or bad fit.

Paint Look for damage, cracks and breaks, dents, excessive runs,distortion,
etc.
Steps & Grab Irons Check for correct installation.

Inspect all windows, mirrors, and lights for cracks, scratches and breaks.
Glass

Doors and Open and close all doors and windows. They must work easily.
Windows
Locks and Latches Make sure the latches on doors and windows engage correctly. Use the
key to check all locks.
Mirrors Check for damage. Make sure mirrors are in their proper position.

Windshield Washer Check for cleanliness and no debris. Check operation if fluid level at
factory. Check spray pattern/direction windshield.

Air Filter(s) Visually inspect filter(s) for correct installation.


Electronic Check for successful self-test, correct language setting and working of
Monitoring System gauges and buttons.

All Switches & Operate all switches and controls to make sure they operate freely, with
Controls no resistance or friction. Also, check that they activate the correct
component.
Gauges Check all gauges for correct operation.
Horn Operate the horn.
Lights - Outside and Check all lights to make sure they are working: Flood lights, head lights,
Cab brake lights, turn signals, turning lights, and inside the cab.

Heater/Air Operate the heater and air conditioner, including fan and temperature
Conditioning controls. Ensure proper operation.

Seat Belts Inspect seat belts for cuts, tears, and holes. Check the fastening bolts,
and the buckle.
Put the seat in several positions to check its adjustments. On suspension

Seat Cover Check for tears, rips or stains


Steering Column Adjust the column to several positions

Make sure that all parts and publications according to the order are with
the machine. Example: Knobs, Special Instructions, etc. This will be

OPERATIONAL TESTS
> Warm up machine to operating temperature before performing the operational checks.
> Refer to the respective Operations and Maintenance Manual for the correct operation of the machine.
> Refer to the respective Testing & Adjusting Manual for details on test procedures and specifications.

Unusual Noise If you hear wrong noises, find the area of origin.
Vibration If you feel excessive vibration, find the area of origin.
Smoke Color The color of the exhaust smoke is an indication of performance.

Back-up Alarm Move machine in REVERSE. The Shut-Off, Travel or Back-up Aarm
must come on.
Steering Turn the machine fully to the right, and to the left.
Brakes Use the brakes several times. Ensure proper function of the service
brakes and parking brakes.
Hydraulic Controls
