BED 101 Introduction to Vocational and Technical Education 2 Credits

Definition, scope, philosophy and objectives of vocational and technical


education (VTE); funding of VTE programmes; development of vocational
and technical education in Nigeria; the role of vocational and technical
education in national development; youth leadership development; public
speaking, time management, leadership styles, organizational skills, group
dynamics, meetings. etc.; characteristics of vocational and technical education;
problems and prospects of vocational and technical education; place of
vocational and technical education in universal basic education.

Course objectives

At the end of the course the students should be able to:

1. Know the Definition, scope, philosophy and objectives of vocational and technical
education (VTE)Know the distinction between company and partnership.
2. Know the sources funding VTE programmes.
3. Know the development of vocational and technical education in Nigeria development
of vocational and technical education in Nigeria.
4. Know the role of vocational and technical education in national development.
5. Understand the concept of time management.
6. Know the leadership styles, organizational skills, group dynamics, meetings etc.
7. Know the characteristics of vocational and technical education.
8. Understand the problems and prospects of vocational and technical education.
9. Know the place of vocational and technical education in basic, secondary and higher
education.

Requirement for examination:

This is an elective course for students in Departments of Educational Management. Students


are expected to participate in all the course activities and have minimum of 75% attendance
to be able to write the final examination.

education. Therefore, you should refer to your Student Handbook, available on the website

and in hard copy form, to get information on the procedure of online/e-learning. You can

contact the Faculty of Education helpdesk which is available 24/7 for every of your enquiry.

credentials and click on BED 311. Download and read through the unit of instruction for each

week before the scheduled time of interaction with the course tutor/facilitator. You should

also download and watch the relevant video and listen to the broadcast so that you will

understand and follow the course facilitator.

Continuous Assessment (CA) 30%

Examination 70%

Total 100%
