SECTION _ A

1. A teinforced concrete two bay portal frane is used for covering a hatl 20 m wide by 40 m 20
length. Distance between centre line of column is 10.0 m. The portals are spaced at 4 m
intervals. The height of column is 5 m. Provide thickness of stab 120 mm. Design one of
the intermediate portal ftame.
Assume fixed condition at the base ofthe column. Assume SBC ofsoil 250 kN / m2 . Sketch
the details ofreiDlorcement in the pottal fiamc.

5 A eight stoicy SMRI' building has plan dimensions as shown in fig. 5. The storey height is 20

4kN /m2. The outcr wall is of 230 mm an<l inner partition wall is of 175 mm including
plastcr.-fhe intensity of Livc load on each lloor is 3kN/m2 and on roof is t.5kN/m2.
Building is located is Zonc Il[ and soil below foundaiion is hard. Detemine Seisnric forces
and shear at different floor Ievels.

bearing capacity ofsoil is 250 kN / m2 . Use M 25 grade ofconcrcte & Fe 4l 5 stecl. Assume
