Question 1

Sample answer:

Hey Darcy,
I’m excited about going on the camping trip too! It’ll be so much fun!
Thanks for offering to lend me some camping equipment but I don’t need to borrow anything.
My brother’s lending me his camping stuff like his sleeping bag, folding chair, and torch.
I think it’s a great idea for everyone to bring a dish to share. I know how to make a delicious cold pasta
salad, so I’ll make that.
I think everyone would enjoy singing some songs around the campfire. I’ll bring my guitar, so we can sing
along to some tunes.

Question 2

Sample answer:

I think it’s very important for people to celebrate traditional festivals because they stop people from
forgetting a country or region’s traditions.
My favourite traditional festival is the midsummer festival called Sankt Hans Festival. In Denmark,
where I come from, people have been celebrating this festival for hundreds of years. It’s always on
23 June which is the shortest night of the year.
I live in northern Denmark, so I always go to the Sankt Hans Festival at Skagen beach. At the festival,
everyone sings traditional songs, eats food and dances together. There’s always live music before a
huge fire is lit.

Question 3

Sample answer:

As I got off the aeroplane, my mobile phone rang. When I saw who was calling me my heart started to
beat quickly with excitement. It was my best friend, Melissa, who was supposed to pick me up at the
airport. Was she ringing to tell me that she was late or perhaps worse, she wasn’t coming to fetch me
at all? As I looked for her in the crowd at the arrival area I answered her call. ‘Where are you, Melissa?’,
I asked. ‘Look behind you’, she replied. As I did, I saw her familiar face and we both started laughing.
