Preserving The Environment Is Very Important

This document discusses the importance and benefits of recycling. It notes that recycling is the recovery and reprocessing of waste materials for use in new products. Some key benefits mentioned include: 1) Recycling helps minimize pollution by reducing the burning of garbage and waste entering the oceans. 2) It helps preserve natural resources by reducing the need to cut down trees for paper and use other resources like minerals. 3) Recycling provides green jobs as it involves various roles in collecting, transporting, and processing recyclables.

Preserving the environment is very important. One way that would be possible is by recycling.

Recycling is the recovery and

reprocessing of waste materials for use in new products. There are important environmental and economic benefits connected with
recycling. Common materials that are recycled consist of aluminium cans, glass, paper, wood, and plastic. Recycling should be
mandatory because it saves natural resources, it conserves energy, and it reduces pollution.

Earth is our planet and a most important need for the continuity of life. It is full of all the basic resources to continue a life
however; it is getting declined continuously because of some unethical behaviour of the human being. Saving earth is the most
important social awareness which everyone must know about to bring some positive changes on the earth.

We should stop cutting down rain-forests to our life, atmosphere and homes of many different species. People should limit their
use of electricity and use less fossil fuel to save the environment from global warming. They should promote the use of solar
lights and wind energy to save destroying earth. Following the 3R rule (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) can be proved very effective in
saving our precious earth. People should make the habit of reduction in usage of harmful things, re-usage and recycle of things in
order to generate less amount of wastes.

People are now more aware of how recycling can help us improve our lives and save our natural resources. Every day, we dispose
tons and tons of garbage. Before we end up losing our natural resources because of the ill effects of too much garbage, we should
practice reusing and recycling materials.

Here are just five ways recycling can help our planet:

1. Recycling helps minimize pollution. One way we can minimize pollution is through recycling and reusing garbage. When
people burn garbage, this can harm the ozone layer and produce harmful gases which can lead to respiratory diseases like cough
and asthma, among others. When garbage is thrown in the ocean, it could kill and affect our marine resources and coral reefs.
Thats why every time we reduce waste, reuse, and recycle our garbage- from used plastic bottles, disposable cups and utensils,
paper, and other plastic products, we get to save the earth and even millions of lives from the harmful effects of pollution.

2. Recycling helps preserve our natural resources. Can you imagine how many trees are cut every day to provide us with all our
paper and wood? Well, if we recycle paper products like newspapers and books, we can save more trees on earth. As such,
recycling products is extremely important so that we can help preserve our natural resources- from trees to minerals to marine
resources. If we continue to waste our resources, the time might come that they will all be used up and we will end up with
nothing.

3. Recycling gives green jobs. Did you know that recycling also provides green jobs to millions of people? When communities
invest in efforts to recycle garbage and other waste materials, people are given the chance to work and earn money. From
collecting garbage, segregating, transporting, to recycling them into useable products, people are given the opportunity to help
save the environment and at the same time earn money for a living. People opening up junk shops for instance also engage in a
worthwhile endeavour.

4. Recycling helps create awareness. Another benefit of recycling is the ripple effect it has on the people. When a school for
instance ventures into recycling, this can be adopted by the community, and later on by a bigger organization, or the entire state
itself. Through recycling, people become aware of its importance and the word gets spread everywhere. This way, people can
work together to help save the environment.

5. Recycling saves expenses and resources. Finally, recycling can help save on our expenses and resources. It helps reduce the
amount of materials that are wasted or thrown in landfills such as paper, plastic, glass, and aluminium. This also enables
companies to rely less on raw materials, which requires more energy for manufacturing a new product. For instance, recycling
plastic material requires less energy than having it produced from raw materials. This is more cost-effective and environment-
friendly because carbon emissions are lessened and energy use is greatly reduced.

These are just five ways recycling can help the planet. So do your share now and start recycling. Say No to Mindless
Waste…

Just imagine how much waste 7 billion people can generate. An average person throws away 4 pounds of trash every day and
makes about 1.5 tons of solid waste a year. Multiply that by 7 billion and you know why we have environmental problems.

What’s ironic about it is that 75% of our trash can be recycled. Recycling is when used waste and materials are converted into new
products, so that it can be used again. This practice ensures that we don’t waste perfectly reusable materials. It lowers the demand
for new materials to be produced and thereby lowers our energy consumption. Recycling also keeps our non-usable trash from
reaching the landfills where they can add to pollution.

Recycling is Cool

Here are recycle facts for kids that will help them understand the reasons why it’s important, the positive impact it can have to our
environment and how they can make recycling a habit.

 Many types of materials can be recycled such as :

a.  Paper

b.  Plastic

c.  Glass

d.  Metal

e.  Textiles

f.  Batteries

g.  Electronic Equipment

h.  Food

 Different products require a lot of resources to produce and some manufacturing methods pollute the environment. When
you recycle, you help save energy and resources and reduce pollution.
 Recycling 1 ton of paper can save 17 trees, 7,000 gallons of water, 2 barrels of oil, and 4,000 kilowatts of electricity. The
energy that you save can power 1 home for 5 months.
 The average family uses 6 trees worth of paper each year.

 21.5 million tons of food is wasted each year. If we practiced composting that amount of food, it would have the same
effect to our environment as removing 2 million cars off the highway.
 If every American recycled 10% of the newspapers they buy, we can save 25 million trees every year!
 Recycling 1 aluminum can saves enough energy to light a 100 watt light bulb for 20 hours and a TV for 2 hours. That’s
just from 1 can.
 If we gathered all the plastic bottles thrown away by Americans, it can encircle the world 4 times!

 For every ton of recycled glass, you prevent 315 kilograms of carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere.
 Your unwanted clothes might be needed by someone else.  Recycling textiles and fabrics means less land, water and
fertilizer is needed to grow Cotton.

Where do you start?

The recycling process starts when you separate the materials can be recycled from your other trash. The materials that are
segregated are then collected by the recycling company or a collection program in your community.  Some places have buy-back
centers where they buy your recyclables for a price or drop off centers where you can deposit your recyclable trash.

Why do we need to recycle?

Recycling is a way of extending the usefulness of something that has already fulfilled its initial purpose. A new product can be
made out of it, and it will be useful again! Every time we recycle, we save our environment a little more. We cut fewer trees, use
less water and energy. All products require natural resources to produce and our growing population is straining our planet with
our need for more raw materials.
Let’s keep our trash away from the landfills and recycle what we can. Your effort can go a long way in saving our environment.
We all know about recycling, but knowing about it and living it is not the same thing. What we need to do is make it a part of our
lives.
