Abstract IPR 2
Intellectual property refers to the creations of mind, such as inventions; literary and artistic works;
designs; and symbols, names and images used in commerce. It also refers to digital media such as
audio and video clips that can be downloaded online. The digital age has led to new and challenging
IP issues that any business that uses digital assets- such as software, websites, and much more. When
you create digital assets, they can be recreated and distributed in various counties all over the planet.
Interpretations and statutes regarding IP Law always varies from country to country. Not only is it
much easier to illegally reproduce digital intellectual property, it is also much easier to distribute it.
Thousands of illegal copies of digital IP can be sent around the world in a click of a button. And the
proliferation of social media only adds to this issue. Social media is built around sharing, and it has
grown to a point where it is nearly impossible to police the millions of infringed photos, videos, and
more being distributed on sites like Facebook and Twitter.
The production of digital content is a phenomenon which has completely changed the conditions of
access to knowledge. Within this framework of it becomes even more important to find and to
formulate a new settlement for IP rights balancing contrasted rights. For example, copyright has long
been a central pillar of protection for software code and many will know how to identify and capture
copyrighted code in a way that allows the copyright in it to be successfully enforced. Patents are among
the better known forms of IP. Patents can be particularly beneficial because they can cover wide-
ranging technical concepts, including features of products and methods of making, installing and
using.
Essentially, there are a number of mechanisms available to protect intellectual property associated
with digital innovations and it is up to the innovators to make sure that the results of their skill,
investment and labour are protected. Given the rapid speed of digital change, it is increasingly
important to have a strategy in place to make the most of our intellectual property.
