This course helped me a lot when I started learning Power BI. It covers every aspect being tested in the
DA 100 exam. It starts with Data preparation with GUI in Power Query. The course then introduces data
modeling basics and best practices. The instructors go though each visual and explain how and when it
should be used. Then we are introduced to self service BI with Power BI service, sharing and
collaboration using Workspaces and Apps. The course is great way to learn power bi capabilities.

This is a 157 video long course. You need to be patient and really try the demos yourself to make the
most of it.

Also, if you don’t mind spending some money on good material, there is a great course on Udemy by
Phillip Burton. Phillip walks through every small feature in Power BI. This course is currently only about
Power BI desktop (Data Prep, Modeling, Analysis and Visualization). Phillip is going to add videos on
Power BI service soon.

Prepare the data – Power Query


Once you have gone through the basics, you can start learning advanced concepts. Power Query used M
language for data transformation and shaping. It is powerful. Learning Power Query may not be easy
and can take a lot time. Power BI has taken care of that, and allows you to harness the Power of Power
Query with GUI in the transform tab. You can do most of your work using the buttons in the transform
tab.

Data Modeling
If you are familiar with relational databases, then understanding data modeling in Power BI will not be
difficult. Following videos were helpful in understanding the concepts and I like to go back to these once
in a while to revise the concepts.

DAX
DAX has a steep learning curve. I have struggled a lot with DAX especially evaluation context. Practice
and revision of concepts can make this journey less difficult. Following videos helped me a lot.

You will find many questions on this section and because some of these features are paid, you need a
pro license to get hands on experience on some of the concepts. Once you are confident with the basics,
you can opt for a trial version of pro license and make most of it.
