A. Analysis

1. What makes them famous?

For me, what makes the four of them famous is that they lived a
productive and meaningful life despite their physical disability. These
people were known because of their achievements, talents and skills
despite the challenges they faced. Since, they have achieved a lot
in different areas especially in the area of sports, politics and
broadcasting. They are an inspiration to each one of us, with or
without disability. Through their determination, perseverance and
confidence which pushes them to achieve great things. These
people who have difficulty in walking or moving showed us that
disability is not a barrier to achieving incredible things.

2. What are the challenges they have overcome?

One of the most difficult problems they’ve faced is coping with and
adjusting to a disability. They have a mentality that other people with
disabilities must share as well. Living with a disability does not imply
that they will stay at their home. A disability does not prevent or limit
anyone from achieving their goals; you must only be willing to deal.

3. How did they inspire you?

All of them are so inspiring wherein they have inspired me to dream
big dreams. They give me encouragement to fight for my dreams.
They motivated me to always stay on that grind and never stop
chasing my dreams. I realize as well that its so easy to be
disheartened when things don’t happen the way you want them to
when you want them. I just have to keep going. More importantly,
never give up because I will never know what I am capable of unless
I persevere.

APPLICATION Self Progress Check Test. Be fair with yourself. Make this test a
real gauge of what you have known from course.

Answer the following questions.

1. What’s the difference between orthopedic impairment, neurological

and health impairment?
The difference between orthopedic impairment, neurological and
health impairment. An orthopedic impairment involves the skeletal
system-bones, joints, limbs, and associated muscles. A neurological
impairment involves the central nervous system which affects the
capacity to move, utilize, feel, or control various parts of the body.
Disease and or chronic sickness are examples of health limitations.
Despite the fact the three are unique and suggestive of one another,
they may cause similar limitations in movement.

2. What are the different types of orthopedic impairment? Types of
neurological impairment?
The different types of orthopedic impairments are, Poliomyelitis also
known as infantile paralysis, Osteomyelitis, Bone fracture, Muscular
dystrophy, Osteogenesis imperfecta, Limb deficiency and Crippling
conditions such as Clubfoot, Clubhand, Polydactylism and
Syndactylism. While Cerebral palsy, Spina Bifida, Spinal Cord Injuries and
Traumatic Brain Injuries are the types of neurological impairment.

3. Discuss some environmental modification for persons with disability in the

regular setting?
For me, the classroom environment must be considered in making
changes and accommodations in order to boost student involvement
and enhance learning. In modifying the classroom for students with
physical disabilities we need to remove obstacles and arrange furniture
to ensure clear passage to where they will sit and hold any meeting.
Specific assignments can be adjusted or modified for students, too. For
example, a student who has difficulty walking or moving, it may be
necessary to make alterations around the home to enable access and
movement from room to room for a walking frame, wheelchair, or
mobility scooter by widening doors.

B. Enumerate and describe the educational programs and support

services for students with physical disabilities.

Educational Programs
✓ Modifying school furniture
We need to consider the arrangement of the classroom including
fixed equipment because there are students who have difficulty in
walking or moving that use assistive devices to increase mobility.
✓ Physically accessible environment that is not mobility limited.

Support Services

✓ Providing need-based assistance

Giving extra time for tests/exams or providing alternative assignment
options, when providing assistance, must be based on the individual
needs of each student.
✓ Ensure all off-site activities are accessible.
