Assignment Module 7

The document presents data from two studies and performs statistical tests to determine if there are significant differences between groups. The first study looks at sick leave data from employees at four bank branches. The second examines daily coffee consumption amounts for people in four different regions. F-tests are conducted to analyze the data in both cases.

1. A rural bank has four branches in a certain city.

The bank president was anxious

that employees were taking advantage of the bank’s substantial sick leave policy;
and he alleged that it might be associated with the branch where employees work.
He requested each branch manager to submit the records of sick leave (in days)
availed of randomly select employees the previous year.  The table below shows the
results.  At a .01 alpha, is there significant difference on the mean number of sick
leave availed of employees from the four branches?

Branch A Branch B Branch C Branch D

  12 10 18 10

Null Hypothesis: There is no significant difference on the mean number of sick leave
availed of employees from the four branches.
Alternative Hypothesis: There is significant difference on the mean number of sick leave
availed of employees from the four branches.
Level of Significance: 0.01

Degree of Freedom = = =5.56
18−4 14
Decision Rule: Reject null hypothesis if F > +5.56; otherwise, do not reject the null
hypothesis

Computation:

SSA=4 ( 13.75−12.1125 )2+ 5 ( 10.2−12.1125 )2+5 ( 16−12.1125 )2 +4 ( 8.5−12.1125 )2

Conclusion: Reject the null hypothesis, 13.4096 > 5.56; which means there is significant
difference on the mean number of sick leave availed of employees from the four
branches.

2. A student researcher studied the daily coffee consumptions (in ounces) of people
from Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, and Quezon. The table next page shows the

places
