Reading words with long vowels sound a, i, o, u, with silent


“e” is very important. It is among the first reading skills that a child
is exposed to. It also helps learners how to pronounce the words
correctly. The association between sounds and spelling can be a
difficult concept to grasp at first.
This module is made for you to understand how to read
words with long a, i, o, u sound with silent “e.” Specifically, you are
expected to:
a. Read words with long a, i, o, u sound (with silent e)
b. Read phrases, sentences, stories, and poems consisting of
long a, i, o, u words.

What I Know
A. Directions: Read each sentence and underline the word with
long /a/, /i/, /o/, /u/ sound with silent e.
1. Dave went to the forest to get firewood.
2. Anna and Mark love to eat ripe mangoes.
3. The teacher arrived at the entrance gate early.
4. Mother and I enjoyed the ride yesterday.
5. Eric got the perfect tune of the song.

B. Directions: Read the short story and write the words with long

What I Have Learned

A long vowel sound is a vowel sound pronounced the same


way as the name of the letter itself. For example, the long U in
words with silent e, sound is pronounced like “yoo” as would be
the case in words like “lure” and “tube.” Similarly, the long A sound
in “bake” and “gate” “hole” and ”told.”
