I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
1. Classify sentences according to their uses.
2. Familiarize the punctuation marks used in each type of sentences.
3. Show teamwork through participating in a group activity.
4. Construct declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory sentences.

B. DEVELOPMENTAL ACITIVITIES
1. Presentation
Do you know that there are four types
of sentences according to use? Well, this
is our lesson today. I need four volunteers
to read the following sentences.
1. I am hungry.
2. Have you had lunch?
3. Open the door.
4. What a delicious meal!

2. Discussion
Sentences are classified according to
their uses. They have four types.
A. Declarative: It tells something
about the person, things, place or,
events. It also makes a statement. It
ends with a period.

EXAMPLE:
Handwashing with soap removes
germs from hands.

B. Interrogative: It uses Wh-question


and Yes-No question. It ends with a
question mark.

EXAMPLE:
Do you love yourself?
How do you stay healthy?

C. Imperative: It issued a command


or expresses a request. It ends with a
period.
EXAMPLE:
Cover your mouth when you cough.
Please clean the house.
D. Exclamatory: It expresses strong
feelings and emotions such as anger,
sorrow, grief, surprise and the like. It
ends with an exclamation point.
EXAMPLE:
What a clean work place!
What a nice car!

3. Application
(Group Activity)
Each group will stand at the corner of the
room where the banners are hung. I will
read a sentence, and if you think it is the
sentence where you are standing, please
sit down. If you are wrong, you are out of
the game. If you are correct, you will get
a sticker. The group with the most
stickers is the Sentence Champ. You will
receive a prize afterwards.

1. Give me a slice of pizza.


2. Where is my Math book?
3. Yellow is my favorite color.
4. It’s almost time for lunch.
5. Meet me at the park at noon.
6. This is the best day ever!
7. Why are you standing there alone?
8. I like your outfit.

Declarative sentence tells something


about a noun. It ends with a period.
Interrogative sentence asks questions. It
ends with a question mark. Imperative
sentence issues a command or expresses a
request. Exclamatory sentence expresses
strong emotions. It ends with an
exclamation point.

IV. Evaluation
Identify and label each sentence as
declarative, interrogative, imperative, or
exclamatory. Write the correct
punctuation mark after each sentence.
