No o FERRITE TEST re a 30) 40) 50) ‘The purpose ofthis procedure isto establish, monitor and implement the ferrite testo determine the acceptability ofthe ferrite content inthe weldments in order to meet project specification and standards Scone “The seope ofthis Method Statement Covers Ferrite Content Measurement forthe welds, base metal and HAZ of: + Suinless Stee/ Austenitic stainless steel + Duplex stainless set Reference (Current Eitin / Addenda ofthe following references shall be applicable AWS A42. AWS ASO. ‘ASME B31.1, B313 APIRP 582 ‘A545.6-44-0005-7401 Specification for Piping Materials .A545.6-44-0012 General specification for Piping 6-77-001 REV-4 Specification for welding of pressure piping, Equipment for Examination ‘The equipment uilized for examination shall be Fevtscope MP 30 or equivalent, Non= destructive measurement of ferrite conteat in ange of 3 to 8% in the weld metal Fe ot 0-110, |WRC suitable for both austenitic & duplex steels and suitable to measure onsite works. Procedure ‘+ All ferrite content measurements shall be subjected to examination under witness by Client / Client inspector where applicable at any reasonable time an place during fabrication and installation works, Ferrite content test shal be cated out by tained / experienced person, ‘+ Repair Ferrite content test shall be cated out in shop as well sin fabrication fed ‘The extent of examination shall be as per governing document in iu ofthe reference document. Te following sal be the criteria "> For piping over 12” to 12” Dia ine) minimum 3 measurements on 2 spots per weld ? locations at 0" & 180 al @)PROCEDURE FOR =z FERRITE TEST > For piping over 12" Dia minimum 3 spots at 0,120" & 240" locations 60) Calibration: 6.1 The equipment shall be calibrated ‘+ Prieto each use ‘© Whenever batteries, probe cable et. are replaced, ‘+ Atleast everyone hour of continous use. 62 Calforation of the equipment shal be accomplished onthe PGR test plates with known values, 63 Fete testing is reqited for cortosion reasons; the POR shall include ferrite testing in accordance with ASTM E S62 paint counting. No continuous ferte network shall be preset. 70) Surface Preparation The surface shall feature & metalic smooth surface in order to eliminate erroneous measurements brought about by extraneous materials. 112 The sutface shall be prepared using emery paper or by stale means to ensure the material thickness isnot reduced below design thickness 80) Inspection & Test Plan for Repair of Weld Joint 81. The fevte measurement instrument is used with small handheld probe to provide the ‘means {0 quick and exact non-destructive onsite measurerent offerte content 8.2 The fertscope works onthe magnetic inductive prinipl, whereby the ferrite content is obtained from the magnetic permeability 83. The measurements are independent of ucuating material conductivity for claddings over 3 mmm thick of substrate properties. Ferrite mumber is almost equivalent ofeste percentage up to 10, however it shows significant deviation ater that. So direst correlation is not recommended to conver fervte numder to ferrite percentage. ‘Approximate ferite percentage or numbers can be calculated from the chemical composition of the relevant material by using the Chromium equivalent of Nzkel equivalent formula forthe respective diagrams and can be used fo estimating the ferrite peoentage or fette number. Acceptance Criteria Stainless Steel Welding Material types tobe tested-304/304L, 316/316L, SS317L, and S321 (P8) Unless otherwise specified, for mateals requiring PWHT or materials in high- temperature service (AME BPVC Section I, Part D, Table A-360), the ferrite number (PN) fo the deposited weld metal should not exceed 10FN measure prior to PWHT. The minimum FN for deposited weld metal should be 3 FN exeept forthe following (FN shull be measured prior to PWHT:) "> When joining sinless secs for eryogene service, non-magnetic applications, oF special corrosive service, weld deposits with lower FN may be required, 1 The FN for 16-8-2 weld deposits shal be 1-5FN, © When austenitic stainless steel type FCAW weld materials are exposed to temperatures above 1000°F (538°C) during fabrication andor during service: "> Materials shall have a maximum FN of 8 FN Duplex Stainless Steel ‘When qualifying the POR. ferte content shall be messured cr base metal, HAZ, and weld metal: Ferrite content in thes locations shall be 30% to 65%.
