Select to watch documentaries (Real-life Scenarious) of

Societies living in the remote areas/ slum areas of: Luzon, Visayas
& Mindanao

The first Documentary that i had chosen in Luzon titled

‘’Burak at Basura’’ By: Repoter's Notebook From
Tunsuya, Malabon.

Second is in Visayas titled Kakulangan sa Health Services

by: Reporter's Notebook From Selvino, Lobos, Nothern
Samar.

And the last is in Mindanao titled Bayang Uhaw By Kara

David from Bgy. Muti, Zamboanga City.
2. Plot simple Comparative on those 3 that you have chosen.

The first documentary i watched in titled Burak at Basura this

video shows how much the residents here have been affected because
their house has been burned and it's caused of poverty and they lost
hope of getting out of poverty. Some family's here including the
family of junjun has been going through since their house has burned
and at an early age he was forced to stretch his bones to help and
support his parents. This place is littered with garbage so the
livelihood of most people in here is the garbage trade.
The Second documentary i watched in titled Kakulangan sa
Health Services from Selvino, lobos one of the poorest town in
Samar, If the Tunsuya, Malabon is suffering because they have lost
their home, the people here in Samar are suffering a lot because their
place is far from the hospital in this place where there is an illness, it
is said that it just reaches death. Not just the Hospital you can
encountered to this place but also has no electricity and before you get
here you will first go through a bumpy road this is the reason why
people live here is suffering.
The third documentary i watched in title Bayang Uhaw from
Bgy. Matu, Zamboanga, City. Many Family's here in the Philippines
there are a lots of poorest family living here, not Just In Tunsuya,
Malabon and Bgy. Selvino Lobos, Northern, Samar. But also here in
Zamboanga. If this two places is suffering about their Homes, Foods
and far from hospitals. This place is suffering for lack of water.
Besides home, food, and clothing the water is also important to
survive.
1. Discuss the Economic Status
Burak at Burak by: Reporter's Notebook from Tunsuya, Malabon.
The economic status traverse in this area, lot of family's here are poor. I
noticed that the Philippines had a higher number of poor in the region, including
JunJun's family. The family lost their home due to fire that is a reason why their
place is surrounded by garbage, a sea -like waste and many dead animals in the
water. However, Junjun's ignore it as long as he keeps diving here to get plastic
and have something to sell. He said he wanted to help his parents to provide
their foods every day and he want to help his father to build a new home for
them. Due to poverty he forgot to continue his study.
Junjun's father has no permanent job and his mother patiently lined up to
get reliefs goods to sustain their foods every day. The people living here is only
the trade in mud and garbage is the only source of livelihood to survive.
2. Discuss Issues and Problems
The problem that i had notice in this place is that the burning of their
homes. This is the reason why this place is surrounded by the garbage made it
dirty, and piles of filth on it. The family here lost hope of how to make a living
and how they survive.
The other problem they have, every time they wake up in the morning they don't
know we're to get their foods.
Also the problem is instead of their children needs to attend in school, their
children even at an early age have learned to work.
3. Recommendations and Suggestion
It breaks my heart, the poor child submerging his little body to the full of
garbage in the water just to get plastics.
I hope the economy of the Philippines grows faster as in the world and the
government help all the people in poverty level.
Why does the government in the Philippines still don't have those green
innovation that can help reduces waste and pollution.
I suggest that it should have one leaders assigned to this place must assemble
and build an organization to help each other to clean up their place and to
eliminate the garbage.

1. Discuss the Economic Status

Kakulangan sa Health Services by; Reporter's Notebook From Selvino,
Lobos, Northern Samar
One of the poorest town in Northern Samar. Only The Copra And Abaca
are the main source of income of people living here, Steep bumpy potholes and
muddy roads you will go through before you get to the place of Selvino, Lobos.
This place also has no electricity, almost everything here have nothing. Jule’s
Arandia, 10 years old living in this place suffers how life is difficult. But then,
how life is hard is, he still continue his study. Jules is waiting for the people to
come their place to pick up the luggage and he is paid. He did this in order to
survive and to sustain his study. Sometimes Jule's will experience not being able
to eat all day. One in the family of jules will died because it is sick but his father
and his mother has done nothing but to accept. Two hours of travel before you
get to the hospital that is why the people who got sick here are not immediately
taken to the hospital.

2. Discuss Issues and Problems

The problem faced by the people here is the hospital is far from this area.
Most of the problem they suffer is lack of electricity that is why it's hard to
connect them to other place, no other source of income. Sometimes, the price of
copra goes down and also the problem in this place is that the road here is
almost neglected which is why it is so difficult for them to bring their product to
sell.

3. Recommendation and suggestion

I hope the administration now, sees this to solve their problems.
I suggest that the government should fix their roads so that they can travel
smoothly especially they sell their product immediately.
I also suggest that the government should be build a hospital closer to the
crowded and sick area, so that the people who need treatment can run quickly
and close by.
And i suggest to the government should donate a solar panel in every
family so that they can easily connected to the other places.

1. Discuss the Economic Status

BAYANG UHAW by: Kara David from Bgy. Muti, Zamboanga city.

"No matter how rich nature is, everything has a limit" according to Ms
Kara David. There's a place in our country that needs of government attentions.
Just like the place in Brgy. Muti, Zamboanga City their place is very scarce in
water supply, it is not new to the people living here to dig every time the water
running out. One of the most important is to have a water supply in the
community. Almost 15 feet of excavated only pure rock is still being flowed.
Some of people here are very thirsty. They don't know how to get
water .Somebody here said that the government once provided funds for water
supply but later on it also dried up. They can take a water from the river but it
will use only for washing but not for drinking. Some people here especially
those children have no resistance due to lack of water.

2. Discuss the issues and problems

The problem faced by the people in this place is the lack of adequate water
supply. The soil in this place is not healthy because only rocks are drug and
there is really no water to get it.
The health of people living here is affected.

3. Recommendation and suggestion to the solution of problems.

I think the solution of this problem a government should give higher
funds to build a dam.
I suggest the people living here should plant some trees so that it
contains water. It’s better to plan a massive reforestation.
Build a tank to store large amount of water to be used during lean
months.
I suggest also that the people should join the organization here for the
construction of the reservoir.
They can also contribute each of family, so that they can buy some
equipment for construction of reservoir.

Watch documentary films on schools in the Philippines and

Abroad.

I chose to watch the documentary film in Philippines in Titled ‘’BIKE TO

SCHOOL’’ by: Howei Severino

According to Albert Einstein "life is like riding a bicycle, to keep your

balances you must keep moving". In the town of Baganga in the province of
Davao, Oriental Mindoro many of its national high school more than 900
students who live far away. Those who can't afford to pay have to walk. Most
walk more than an hour under the scorching sun. They would have to spend
20php a day for travel fare. The heat and distance make it difficult for some
students to go to school. These kids must travel many kilometers to achieve the
dream of many filipinos up to finish their study. Every morning, through hard
work and determination their dream is slowly coming true. But they have a long
way to go. One day, a visitor came to the school bearing good news. He offered
a solution to reduce absenteeism in the school. Sir Joel Uichico, His the head of
bike in the Philippines, the organization that gives free bikes to school for
students to use. Mr. Joel Uichico started the programs in 2010 the bikes are
second donation of America that his group repairs. They wanted to the students
to finish their studies and to become a good people, responsible safe riders and
be of help to others. Bikes for the Philippines became part of the pedals and
paddles, program of the department of department of education in the past
administration. So Far, they have given bikes 14 bikes throughout the country.
Baganga has been suffering for the last few years in 2012, typhone Pablo
destroyed a lot of the coconut forest their main source of livelihood. Six years
have pasted but many have not yet recovered one of the teacher in this school
observed that some still cannot afford to buy a peso worth of bond paper. The
cafeteria used to be full but even a bag of ice water has to be shared. That hasn’t
changed. This teacher was a bike coordinator in baganga National High School.
The teacher recounted how she had to wait five years before theirs school was
finally given bicycles. The teacher chose the recipient’s because she said that
not every one with a poor background are deserved like just other family is
gambling in their home. There are also those who keep roosters for cockfighting
instead of giving money to have fare their children to school. Choosing
Candidates for the bikes is a meticulous process. For one it’s not a reward for
higher grade, anybody can be chosen as long as it can be proven that a student is
really in need and he or she can commit to the rules of the program. One of the
students proved himself he is Renaldo Nagre. Before the bike grant, he was a
delinquent student. Some of teacher observed that nagre rarely went to school
and spent most of his time playing games in computer shops. And other than
that some of his classmate insulted him as a hunchback ‘’buktot’’. But after
receiving the bike everything has changed now he always being present and his
classmate stopped to bully him.
Self-confidence is just one of the rewards of pushing the pedal for many
viewed as good exercise and free transportation. But for me who’s been biking
for five decades the main reason for biking because it’s far. There’s joy in
biking it’s that simple but nagre said he feel just everybody else are equal.
Teacher here said some of the student are from being shy it’s become
showy. The head of their organization their visions to involved to help them
become better people disciplined and helpful others. He included values
formation in our vision. Using the bike, the coordinator becomes creative, they
care about the program and become close to the students. Other students bike is
not just a trusty comparison to school it’s help her to carry the brooms. It’s a
common situation for many families in Baganga whose coconut livelihoods
were ruined by typhoon Pablo. That is a reason, that bike is the most important
for them. It’s not only transport but a way to improve their lives.
I chose to watch the documentary film in Abroad ‘’The School Girl of
Sichuan Mountain’’
This film shows about the girl who interested to attend in schools, since
them, living in the Sichuan Mountain that is far away from the schools. Chema
is 13, she is still a child. That is the age that becomes a woman. Since she was a
little girl she helps her mother to work to fields she’s be able to handed machete
in a single for a long time. But she seems many things to learn. Chema is in the
lowest primary schools. If chema live the mountain she will continue her study
and her mother will the do all work in alone. Chema is wanted to attend school
but she said they are poor. According to the legend the people were born in a
secret village. Chema and her sister live the mountain for the first time together
with their brother in law. The couple wanted to experience of their two young
sisters to experience. Two sisters were going to watch the theatre that they don’t
see it in her village. They also experiencing to go in the bridge were the tourist
always here. They were very happy to see the Chinese with wearing their
traditional clothes. The two sisters experienced what they had never seen or
experienced on the mountain because there was no such thing in there. After a
month they back to their village, to celebrate the birthday of chema. Their big
sister talked to their mother and their brother in law talked to their father about
their study. He said to their father that everything is different now. The fathers
said that the women in a family should continue working. Their parents want to
work only in the fields they didn’t want to study their kids.
But then, the brother in law said that the kids should finish their
schooling for their future and for the next generation. Their mother wanted to
continue only the elder sisters and chema will stop. But their always telling to
them that when they maintain the tradition when they grow up they will not
change anything. These two couple are very interested to sustain and support
the study of these two young girls. They convince their father to bring the two
and continue their study. These two wanted to pursue their education and now,
she has to find the courage and explain this to the rest of the clan back in the
mountain. If they study hard their life would change. And their parents will be
proud of them. Chema wanted to be a doctor so they need to strive to reach her
goal. After four hour’s drive they finally arrived in the mountain. Their brother
in law took their parents again. He always explained to them the importance of
education for these young. But the fathers decision are fixed it seems that they
didn’t want to continue the education of this two.

Plot the difference between the two

documentaries.

A documentary from the Philippines this

documentary shows the living of life of student who
lived in far away from the school that caused of
absenteeism and the other had to stop because they
didn’t afford the fare of going to school. So that theirs
one Organization who give them hope to continue and
pursue their education. That because there is a people in
our country who felt the poverty of some Filipinos.
They believed that if there is a problem there is a
solution. Not just like the documentary that I have to
watch from abroad is all about the two girl who
interested to study but their parents didn’t want to
continue their education.
This video also shows about a way of living and the
transition of a girl as well as her culture. In a way it
makes me sad to hear and see how tradition is traded in
for the global consumerism that sort of destroys the
innocence of way of living, trading in the downsides of
the old ways for the benefits of a modern society at the
cost of losing the pluralism and what we could have
learned from that for a more sustainable and equal
future.

SLIDES 1
`The social issues presented in the slides.
Many of houses are so close together it will pose a
danger. I noticed that their house is so small that is
difficult for them to sleep well. Children in need of
education will hopefully be noticed.

The social issues presented in the slides about

the students who study in a public and private
school. The student in a public school I noticed that
some of them who walk long distance just to study.
Cross a river just to study. Fattening the heart
because they are interested in studying despite the
many trials they will have to go through before
coming to school. The children are very lucky to
study in a private school because the standard of
education is high and you can learn a lot.
