WASIA 2006 Overview

The Water Services Industry Act 2006 (WSIA 2006) was introduced to restructure Malaysia's water supply industry and improve efficiency. It established a licensing framework for water treatment, distribution, and sewerage and set minimum water quality standards. Licensees must comply with these standards and are subject to penalties for non-compliance. The act also outlines strategies like monitoring, investment planning, and a water forum to promote quality water management. Several government agencies are involved in implementation and regulation to achieve the goals of improved services, efficiency, and public health under the WSIA 2006.
