Export To Mars2000
Export To Mars2000
Important Notes
The purpose of this feature is to provide a means to ensure the conformity of the ship design done in
CADMATIC Hull to the constraints and rules of Bureau Veritas Rules for the Classification of Ships
and IACS Common Structural Rules for Bulk Carriers and Tankers.
Setting Up
To be able successfully create an export file, you must first define some ship data which will be used as
input for the export file. Also, some export settings must be defined. The steps required to do this are
explained in Setting up the Export.
Limitations
There are some construction items related and other limitations and constraints to the export. Those are
explained in Important Notes.
Importing to Mars2000
The exported file can be imported to Mars2000 by selecting File > Import neutral format file in the
Mars2000 software.
Refer to the Mars2000 software documentation for more information on Mars2000 usage.

Setting up the Export
In addition to the frame view data contained in the drawing, some additional ship information must be
provided for the Export to Mars2000 functionality. This information is defined in various parts of the
System Management application, and in the Main Project Data File, which is a separate Excel file.

You must also set the location and name for the export file in the System Management application.
l Ship Name and Service Notation: Projects > Properties > Settings. See Ship Name and Service
Notation.
l Main Particulars, which consists of several ship attributes: Projects > Properties > Main
Particulars. See Main Particulars.
l Project Drafts, which consists of the draft values: Projects > Properties >Project Drafts. See
Project Drafts.
Define the SWBMSF distributions and materials in an Excel file. This file is called the Main
Project Data File. You can either create the file manually or use a template file provided with the
CADMATIC Hull release, within the example project.
See the following sections in the Important Notes topic for detailed information on how to set up the
Excel file:
The export options consist of the default Main Project Data File, and the location and name of the export
file.
Go to Import/Export > Scantlings in the System Management application, and define the following:
l Main Project Data File: This is the Excel file containing the SWBMSF distributions and
additional material information. The default is ../mainprojectdata.xlsx. You can select another file
if so desired in the export function Hull > Export > Scantlings > Mars2000 in the 3D-Contek
application.
l Export path - Define the folder where the export file will be created. Type in the path or select
from the available fields. The default is <project_path>\<active block>.
l XML Filename - Define the export file name. Type in the name or select from the available
fields. The default is ScantlingsProperties.xml.

You can export frame view data to an XML file to be used for scantlings analysis in the Mars2000
software.
Note: Only longitudinal items (items in cross-sections) will be included in the export. For information
on other limitations and constraints, see Important Notes.
Note: Before exporting, make sure that all the necessary ship data and export settings have been defined
in the System Management application. For more information on defining the ship data and export
settings, see Setting up the Export.
Exporting
1. Select Hull > Export > Scantlings > Mars2000 in the 3D-Contek application. The Export to
Scantlings dialog opens.
2. The available views are shown on the left-hand side. Select the views whose data you want to
export. The selected views will be moved to the right-hand side.
3. Under Main Project Data, you can either accept to use the default Main Project Data File, or
click Browse file to select another one, or type in the path and file name, if so desired. The default
Main Project Data File is set in the System Management application, Import/Export >
Scantlings.
4. Click Export. By default, the export will be created in <project_path>\<active block>, with the
name ScantlingsProperties.xml. The destination folder and file name can be set in the System
Management application, Import/Export > Scantlings.

Note: To be able to export the shell plates, together with the shell frames, you must show the shell plates
in the drawings, and then save the drawings. On the Home or View tab, select General > Properties.
The Drawing Properties dialog opens. Select Show shell plates under Show construction.

Important Notes
The following rules, limitations and constraints apply to exporting frame view data from
CADMATIC Hull to Mars2000.
General
Only longitudinal items (items in cross-sections) will be included in the export: Hull cross-sections are
scanned for profiles and plates. Profiles and plates in plan view are not taken into account
Construction parts behind or in front of the view will be exported according to the visibility distances set
by the user.
If modifications are made to the drawing to be exported, the drawing must be saved before exporting.
Unlike CADMATIC Hull, Mars2000 distinguishes primary structures from secondary structures. The
export leaves the Primary Structure Spacing value to 0.0, and it must be set in Mars2000.
Unlike CADMATIC Hull, Mars2000 has compartments. Compartments must be defined in Mars2000.
The SWBMSF distributions and some material information must be defined in Main Project Data File,
which is an Excel file that must follow the rules described below.
Show/hide screenshot
l The SWBMSF distributions section must be located in columns A-O, and the groups separated by
blank columns (D, H, L).
l The SWBMSF distribution point name must be placed in the first column of the group, and only
there.
l Within a group, the min value column must be placed before the max value column (the names of
the values can be other than in the example).
l There is no limit for the total amount of distribution points that can be defined.
l Partially filled lines are skipped.
file:///C:/Users/cua54/AppData/Local/Temp/VKN2024O.htm 4/18/2021
Export to Mars2000 Page 5 of 5
l Lines after a blank line will not be considered (i.e. they will not be exported).
l In fields where a numeric value is expected, if alphabetic characters are encountered, they are
converted to number 0.
l Each x(m) distribution point value must correspond to a frame location to be exported.
Show/hide screenshot
l The Material section must start from column Q, separated from the SWBMSF distributions
section by one (blank) column only (P).
l The Material title can be changed, as can the subtitles (Name, Type, YieldStress, YoungModulus).
l The order of the Name, Type, YieldStress, YoungModulus columns must not be changed.
l Only six materials are taken into consideration (limit imposed by Mars2000)
l The Name column must not contain duplicate names. Lines with a duplicate name will be skipped.
Note that the material names are case-insensitive. This means the if the following is filled in, only
the first line is exported:
gr-a Steel 0 0
GR-A Steel 1 1
Profiles
Profiles are known as stiffeners in Mars2000. There are four stiffener types available in Mars2000: Flat
bar, T bar, Bulb, (Un)equal angle bar. CADMATIC Hull profile types that are not available as stiffener
types in Mars2000 will be exported as nulltypes and added as flat bars with 0x0 dimensions.
The following profile types will be exported from CADMATIC Hull and their properties translated to
Mars2000 stiffener properties:
Note: Holes are not implemented. Profiles will not be exported properly if they are attached to a plate
with a hole in cross-section.
Materials
Materials must be included in the Main Project Data File with names used in CADMATIC Hull. See
Main Project Data File.
If a material is found that is not included in the Main Project Data File, it will be added to the export as
Steel, with the default Young Modulus and Yield Stress. A warning is displayed in this case.
