Level 5 Assignment 1 Complete

Constructivism can be used as an approach in teaching when you want to make the learning experience more interactive. You can ask students to integrate their past experiences and gain new knowledge from it. One advantage is that it promotes engagement and participation, especially in class, by allowing learners to relate their experiences to find lessons and gain new information. However, some students learn better in a more standard curriculum, so disregarding this may cause some to learn less and be less interactive.

1.4 Explain how identifying and taking account of learners’ individual learning
preferences enables inclusive teaching, learning and assessment.
Explain how you can use learners’ individual learning preferences to ensure
inclusion when you:
• Plan your lessons & create your resources (planning)
• Deliver your lessons (learning/ teaching)
• Assess that learning has taken place (assessment)

Identifying and taking on account the learner’s individual learning preference

enables inclusive teaching, learning and assessment by ensuring that each
child will learn based on their type of learning preference. A teacher can plan
how to maximize each resources that enables children to learn at their own
pace. The teacher can deliver the lesson better since she already knows how
to activate the child’s learning environment with this a learner can easily be
attentive and reasoned with. Individual assessment also comes in handy
when you know the type of learning environment a child prefers.

Explain and compare two different models/ principles of communication and

explain how they can be applied to teaching, learning and assessment.
Explain how are they relevant to your teaching practice?
Explain the factors that are not considered the communication models that
you may have to take into account in a ‘real-life’ scenario/ in your own
teaching practice.

The two different models of communication are Verbal and Non Verbal
Communication it differs in a literal sense, Verbal is a type of communication
in which words are used in order to deliver the message while Non Verbal
communication uses non verbal cues such as body language and eye
contact. They can be both used in learning and teaching. In teaching you can
verbally communicate to the learners in order for them to receive your
message and communicate non verbally when words are not enough.
Through verbal learning children can learn by listening. You can assess
learners as well by communicating with them verbally and non verbally.

Factors to be considered when taking into account ‘real life’ scenarios in

teaching are Communication barriers such as background noise it can hinder
the ability of a child to focus you must overcome instances such as these in
order to have a better quality of learning.

model of assessment is key to finding out the impact of learning that you have
imparted to the children. You can use formative assessment in between
classes in order to be affirmative that children are actually learning. Then
proceed to have a summative assessment after each class.

A draft assessment may look like:

In between discussion I will ask a question that is based from the topic in
will ensure me that children has learned something afterwards a summative
assessment in form a very short quiz based also on the topic may be used.

For a scheme of work you have created in the past or need to create;
explain which theories and models of curriculum development you have (or
will) use, to inform your approach to developing curricula in own area of
specialism. Explain how and why you have used a specific approach.
Investigate and analyse 2 other theories and models of curriculum
development which could be used. Explain the benefits and limitations of each
for your own area of specialism (pros/cons).

The theory best suited in developing a curricula in own area of specialism

is the Wheeler Model. It is a curriculum model that enables one to find out the
aims and objective and integrate them into a suitable learning experience. It
can be used to filter and select proper content. Organize and integrate past
experiences and to finally evaluate the children’s learning.

The other models are:

Traditional Model by Ralph Tyler

Pros - it has a traditional view, it is the most used, it is easy and definitive.

Cons - it is simple and it does not take on account the modern learning
problems such as behavioral changes and psychological factors.

Hilda Taba’s Curriculum Theory

Pros - It maximize interaction between teacher and learner it develops a

certain interactive type of learning that aim to integrate experiences to
learning.

Cons - It does not take on account introverted learners or learners that strive
well when they are silent and just listening. It solely bases on the participation
of the students for it to be useful.

Explain how you could use 2 different theories and models of reflection, to
reflect upon and evaluate at least 2 of the lessons which you have delivered,
either as part of your observations for this programme or as part of your
teaching hours so far.

The two theories of reflection you can use are Kolb and Schon models.
The Kolb is a four stage reflection theory that is know for its experiential
learning cycle. The Schon is a two method model that base on reflection in
action and reflection on action.

I can reflect on two lessons all through out the the programme:

The Constructivism Approach is an eye opener specially to teachers because

based on my experience it is opens oneself and in allows one to know
yourself in order to find new learning.

The Humanistic Approach is another eye opener lesson because it focuses on

the integration of free will. Letting learners learn at their own pace it also
develops a sense of friendship between teacher and learner base on my
experience because it develops a friendship type of relation.
