ACW420: Public Sector Accounting

Group Project (20%)

Semester 1 2020/2021
School of Management

Instruction to students:

1. Students are required to form groups comprising of six (6) members (max) per group.

2. Each group will be required to complete a group project on any of the following topics:
a. Discuss the impact of the financial crisis on Malaysian public sector delivery and
performance.
b. Analyse the Auditor General’s Report 2019 (Series 1) by discussing the effect(s)
of the audit findings in any particular sector, issue, and/or agency (you may
access the report from the Auditor General’s website –
https://www.audit.gov.my).
c. Analyse three years’ (2017 to 2019) spending of any state in Malaysia. Discuss
the state’s economic growth and challenges.

3. Students are required to present their group’s reports in a readable format which
encompasses the following aspects:
a. Proper introduction (e.g., overviews of the concept, the context of Malaysia,
definitions in general and specific terms, etc.).
b. Content with explanation and/or discussion (paragraph format is preferred).
c. Referring to real case examples is very much encouraged to provide further
insights on some important points highlighted in the report.
d. Diagrams and tables (by providing the descriptions of each diagram and table, as
well as the indication of where the sources of facts are derived from).
e. The current issues in Malaysia (need to incorporate arguments and/or opinions).
f. Conclusion.
g. References.
h. Appendices.

4. Students are expected to ensure the reports are free from misleading facts, plagiarism,
and grammatical problems. Coherence between points, paragraphs and sections are
very crucial to structure your group’s ideas and arguments.

5. Groups’ creativity should be reflected in the reports. No “cincai” (or copy and paste)
work is expected, but the final year students’ finest work.

6. Everybody in the group should participate in the preparation of the report. I expect zero
case of ‘free-rider’.

7. This report will be due on week 11 of the semester.

All the best!
