HOW TO USE THIS COMPETENCY-BASED LEARNING
MATERIAL
Welcome!

The unit of competency, “Apply finishing touches on casual apparel”,


is one of the competencies of DRESSMAKING NC II, a course which
comprises the knowledge, skills and attitudes required Electrical Technician
to possess.
The module, “Applying Finishing touches on casual apparel”, contains
training materials and activities related garments industry.
In this module you are required to go through a series of learning
activities in order to complete each learning outcome. In each learning
outcome are Information Sheets, Self-Checks, Operation Sheets and
Task/Job Sheets. Follow and perform the activities on your own. If you have
questions, do not hesitate to ask for assistance from your facilitator.

Remember to:
1. Work through all the information and complete the activities in
each section.

2. Read information sheets and complete self-check. Suggested


references and included to supplement the materials provided in
this module.
3. Most probably, your trainer will also be your supervisor or
manager. He is there to support you and show you the correct way
to do things.

4. You will be given plenty of opportunities to ask questions and


practice on the job. Make sure you practice your new skills during
regular shifts. This way, you will improve your speed, ,memoryand
confidence.

5. Use the self-checks, operation sheets or task or job sheets at the


end of each section to test your own progress. Use the performance
criteria check list or procedural checklist located after the sheet to
check your own performance.

6. When you feel confident that you have had sufficient practice, ask
your trainer to evaluate you. The result of your assessment will be
recorded in your progress chart and Accomplishment Chart.

Performance Objective: Given learning outcome of the qualification


assigned, you should be able to interpret the
apply finishing touches on casual apparel.
The following instruction will inform student on
how to interpret the apply finishing touches on
casual apparel. This set-up is crucial in order for
you to know the types and functions of apply
finishing touches on casual apparel. Read each
step carefully before performing the action
required.

Supplies/Materials : different kind of button, fastener

Equipment :Needle, thread, tailor chalk, tape measure, ruler


and scissors.

Steps/Procedure:
1. Prepare all the materials.
2. The finish product must be checked in accordance with garment
standard.
3. The accessories or materials must be checked in accordance with the
garment standard.
4. Decide upon your buttonhole placement. Mark your fabric with a
common pin.
5. Measure the size of your button. Using a ruler, measure the widest
diameter of your buttons,
6. Cut a tiny slit in your fabric. For a snug fit, the slit should be slightly
smaller than the diameter of your button. Stitching will slightly increase
the size of the buttonhole.
7. Stitch around the opening of the buttonhole. Using double thread,
stitch a tight  
8.Place one stitch next to another. Place a second row of blanket stitch
over the first row of stitching, if needed.

Functions of Sewing Machine Parts:

1. Spool pin- The main function of spool pin is to hold the spool of thread.
2. Bobbin binder spindle- During winding, bobbin is placed here.
3. Bobbin winder stopper-When bobbin reaches its optimum capacity
then bobbin winder stopper stops the bobbin winding.
4. Stitch width dial-The main object of stitch width dial is to control the
zigzag stitch.
5. Pattern selector dial-Pattern selector dial is to set the symbol of the
desired stitch pattern.
6. Hand wheel-Hand wheel is used to raise and lower the need, which is
situated in the right side of the sewing machine.
7. Stitch length dial-Stitch length dial is used to control the length of the
stitch.
8. Reverse stitch lever-The machine will sew in the reverse while the
lever is pushed.
9. Power Switch-Power switch means the off-on office of the sewing
machine. Normally power switch is located at the right side of the
machine.
10. Bobbin winder thread guide-These types of thread guide are used
during bobbin winding.
11. Thread tension dial-Thread tension dial is used to control the tension
on the top thread.
