LESSON PLAN 3Q Math

This lesson plan introduces students to the undefined terms in geometry - points, lines, and planes. The objectives are for students to be able to define, name, and represent these terms using models. The lesson includes activities where students classify objects that represent the terms and play a game to test their understanding. Formative assessments are used to evaluate if students can now name and identify examples of points, lines, and planes. The assignment is for students to research postulates about these fundamental geometric concepts.

Semi-detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 7

By: Traciaaa

I. OBJECTIVES

Content Standards

The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of geometry of shapes and sizes, and
geometric relationships.

MELC: At the end of the lesson, the students are able to:

A. define points, lines and planes;

B. name a point, line and plane; and
C. represent a point, line and plane using concrete and pictorial models.
(M7GE-IIIa-1)

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: UNDEFINED TERMS IN GEOMETRY (POINTS, LINES and PLANES)

B. References: References: LCTG, Geometry III 2013 pp. 3-4
C. Materials

c. Checking of attendance

B. Motivation

PICTURE REVEAL. Starry Night and Constellations

C. Presentation

Just like any other mathematical system, GEOMETRY is based on

 undefined terms,
 unproven statements (postulates and assumptions), and
 theorems.

-Presents the lesson and lesson objectives.

“UNDEFINED TERMS in GEOMETRY”

Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students are able to:
– define points, lines and planes;
– name a point, line and plane; and
– represent a point, line and plane using concrete and pictorial models.

D. Discussion

Activity 1.Objects Representing Undefined Terms

Mechanics: The class is divided into 4 groups.
Mission: The group are going to classify the objects they have seen that may
represent a point, a line or a plane.

POINT
• a position in space. It has only location but no dimension, length, width, thickness and does not
occupy an area.
• is named using a CAPITAL LETTER and it can be modeled by a dot.
• All other geometric figures are made up of a collection of points.

Examples:
Question: Can you give me another example of
an object that can represesnt a point?

LINE

- Is a straight, continues arrangement of infinitely many points.

- Its length is infinite.
- It extends infinitely in two directions.
- It has no thickness.

- A line is named by a single lower script letter or by any two points on a line (two CAPITAL
LETTERS)

Question: Can you give me

another example of an object that
can represesnt a point?

PLANE

• a flat surface that extends infinitely along its length and width.
• It is like an “infinite sheet of paper.”
• It has length and width no thickness.

How do we name a plane?

• It is named by a single script CAPITAL LETTER or by any three points (at least three) in the plane
which are not on the same line. L E

E. APPLICATION

ACTIVITY 2. WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE Game

Mechanics: The class is group into 2, the two group needs to answer 10 questions in the
game, each group has an equivalent prize. The group who gets the highest prize will be the winner. The
winning group will gain plus 5 score in their quiz afterwards.

Instructions: Refer to Fig. 1 for items

1-5.

1. All are points except. . . .

2. What is the other name for line WZ?
3. Name a plane formed by the four lones.
4. All are lines, except. . .
5. Which of the following represents a point?
6. Which of the following represents a plane?
7. Which of the following represents a line?

For items 8- 14, Draw and label the diagram:

8. OP
9. Plane QRST
10. Plane S
11. Line f containing points M & N.
12. Point B contained in plane Q.
13. Line CD on plane B.
14. Point E not on the plane C.
F. Generalization

Questions:

1. What is a point?
2. What is a line?
3. What is a plane?
4. How do we name them?

4. It is of infinite length but it is no width and no thickness. -line
5. They are called the Undefined Terms. -Points, Lines, Planes
Test 2.
