You have to understand that there are other nouns that form
their plural in different ways.
Let us study the following pairs of noun.

salmon - salmon tooth - teeth ox - oxen
What have you observed with the pairs in B and C? Some
nouns change some letters in the spelling of the word.
Let me present to you the table below showing more
examples of irregular nouns.

Forming the Plural Example


Singular and plural scissors – scissors tuna - tuna
are the same. salmon – salmon aircraft - aircraft
pants – pants moose - moose
Changing the aquarium – aquaria octopus – octopi
spelling datum – data agendum – agenda
person – people larva – larvae
axis – axes fungus – fungi
larva - larvae

POINTS TO PONDER

“Reflect on Me”
Some are regular nouns while others are irregular.
Understanding irregular plurals are just a result of speaking and
hearing English. Remember that we form the plural of irregular nous
by changing the spelling. However, some nouns have the same
singular and plural form.
