Dwiki Satrio - Role of Geologist in Coal Mining Industry

This document discusses the role of geologists in the coal mining industry from exploration to production. It outlines that geologists play an important role in minimizing geological risks through accurate geological modeling based on exploration. Their key responsibilities include conducting geological mapping, drilling programs, geophysical surveys, creating geodatabases and models, estimating coal resources and reserves, conducting mine site monitoring, and ensuring quality control. Geologists are also responsible for acid mine drainage modeling and environmental studies during the exploration phase. Overall, geologists help de-risk projects and ensure smooth mining operations through comprehensive geological assessments and characterizations of coal deposits.

The need for energy resources and mining materials will always increase
along with the rate of population growth.
Why’s Geologist Important?
Exploration aims to improve geological model
accuracy to minimize geological risk so that
the geological conditions and coal quality are
mapped well.

Because geological risks have been

minimized, planning and mining can run
smoothly.
Why’s Geologist Important? Geologist as

Challenge
Future Challenge In Indonesia, the mining industry will continue to evolve and develop,
Energy and Mining Development especially after the government's call and the establishment of the
Mining Industry Holding

The raw materials of coal and mineral can be processed into various
kinds of products, so the value of these minerals can be increased

Energy and Mining Development Mining commodities can become one
of the strengths of a country so that
each country will continue to develop
their mines

Drone technology can help

in mine monitoring without
having to go to the mine
area. It can save time,
operational cost, and
reduce risk related to safety

The industrial revolution 4.0 has changed all work pattern

in all lines of business, including the mining industry.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT)

will play big role in mining where in the future we may no
longer need to go directly to the mine site, or even to
operate mining operations.

and maximize mine operations and company business process in general

• (Always) coordinating with others in order to cross check the accuracy data

• How to communicate with others in a good and simplest way, so that the
geology data can be well understood by non geology data consumers

• Maximize the potential of technology, whether related to geology or not, and

keep looking for opportunities that can be exploited in mines
