NARRATIVE REPORT
While the whole world is facing a pandemic right now, the education for all has been
pushed through with an aim to continue the learning of every Filipino pupil. This is made
possible by the alternative way of learning which is the giving of modules right at the learners’
doorsteps. This is of course done by the teachers following the health protocols implemented by
the Department of Health (DOH) against the COVID-19 virus.
Socorro Central Elementary School and SPED Center (SOCES) did its part by
participating wholeheartedly in this vital action for the new normal classes. In line with that, the
grade 6 teachers collaborated with each other to make everything possible by still ensuring the
safety of everyone. From conducting a meeting to discuss the plans regarding the giving of
modules which is agreed by everybody that every pupil who is near with the teacher’s residence
shall be under the in-charge of that certain teacher. After everything was settled, we proceeded
with the printing of modules enough to accommodate the number of pupils enrolled for the
school year. Last August 13, 2020, at the SBM room, the grade 6 teachers also conducted an
orientation for the parents to enlighten them about the new normal way of learning. As usual, the
gathering was done by ensuring social distancing, wearing of facemask, and checking of
temperature through the use of thermal gun. On the same day, we did a simulation by visiting the
homes of learners living in Brgy. Rizal. We prepared a transmittal and started distributing the
modules and even asked feedbacks from the parents.
Each of us from the grade 6 teachers was really committed in doing our part to support
the programs of the Department of Education amidst the catastrophe we are in. Above all,
whatever challenge that comes along the way, we are determined to fulfill our responsibility not
only for our profession but more so because we are after the welfare of our pupils.
VOICE OVER
As the new school year is nearing, the Socorro Central Elementary School & SPED
Center, spearheaded by the school principal, Dr. Rhea Luz D. Sarong, started to get to work for a
whole new preparation of coming back to school with an alternative way to navigate education
while we are facing a global health crisis.
The grade 6 teachers of SOCES led by their grade level chairman, Mrs. Lutchie G.
Estrella have executed a number of plans to ensure the effectivity of the modular way of
learning. From making plans that involve the possible ways to disseminate the modules to
actually visiting households of grade 6 learners, everything was duly prepared. After a series of
planning, the printing of learning materials followed and each of the teachers were very hands-on
and resourceful to make the materials enough for 144 grade 6 Socorronhon learners.
What follows after is one of the most vital things about this new learning modality, the
role of parents. The grade 6 teachers conducted a meeting to educate and enlighten the parents as
to how they are going to be of help to their children while the learning occurs at home. It was
visible that the parents are cooperative to make this aimed objective a reality.
Teachers and advisers of grade 6 then proceeded with the simulation by coming through
the doorsteps of the pupils. There were a series of communication done with the parents and
along with it is a transmittal. Different reactions came from the parents as most of them are
doubtful on how they are going to become the teachers of their child however, as they were
persistent enough to help, they all eventually agreed with a positive outlook about the new
normal way of learning. The retrieval of the modules is done after a week by teachers once again
visiting the household near their residence. This of course involves checking the outputs, making
interventions regarding the difficulties encountered by the pupils.
The entire grade 6 teachers of Socorro Central Elementary School and SPED Center are
doing their very best to provide education to the pupils amidst the pandemic. There were
challenges also along the way but as educators, they are more than willing to commit to the
promise of making education efficient and open for all in whatever situation we are in as they
believe that learning is a promise of a better life ahead.
