around 30 years old. Right after high school, I didn’t go to college and went right into the
workforce and subsequently became a mother. I didn’t really have the time or the
money to go to school to become a teacher. That has been something that I have
always regretted and the dream of becoming a teacher was always put on the back
burner until a little later in life. I remember always being so jealous of the schedule of a
teacher. I had 3 kids and greatly missed the time with them when they got home from
school when I didn’t get home from work until 6pm most days. I felt like the day was
over and I only got to spend time with my kids for a couple hours a day. I wanted a
schedule that allowed me more time with my kids. Therefore, I would say that that
I currently work at an elementary school and I feel like I have been building up
my skills to be a good teacher. I know the skills that it takes to build a rapport with the
students and how to get them to respect and admire you. They will listen to you if they
feel like you care about them. The field observations have helped me immensely
understand how different classrooms are run and how many different philosophies to
teaching there are. It is not a one size fits all philosophy and I love that. I, personally,
because all students are different and all have different needs and interests. I do believe
that the children's education will be so much more successful if we cater the teaching
style and what we teach to the child’s interests and abilities. I believe that
Constructivism most closely aligns with my current beliefs about education in that I
would tend to focus more on how the student is learning versus the learning behavior
itself. I would focus more on teaching the students based upon their learning capabilities
I think that the most current historical event that has happened that sets the
stage for how I will think about children and schools are the recent laws that make sure
to include the students who require gender or sexuality accommodations. I think that is
such a major step for equality in our schools and teaches the other students about
inclusiveness and compassion for other students who may not be like them. My strategy
for teaching will be to teach with passion with the intent to listen and understand all the
classroom that builds friendships through learning activities. I want to have a fun
classroom that children want to come to every day! I also believe that every student
does not learn or test in the same way. It is my hope that I will find a way to teach each
student to their own individual needs and assess them accordingly. I am aware that our
state has standardized testing and that may be a bit of a challenge since all students do
not test the same. I hope to overcome this by teaching each student to their own
learning style.
I believe that you have to possess a lot of patience and an equal amount of
resiliency in order to continue in the career of a teacher. You have to be able and willing
to continue learning. Curriculum and technology are constantly changing and I think that
anyone who is going to make it in this profession needs to be able to “roll with the
punches” and be willing to pivot at any time when things change- and change is always
