COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed for pre-service English teachers who attend an English Language Teacher Education
programme at An Giang University. The course aims to equip learners with fundamental knowledge of
common teaching methods, classroom management, and vocabulary teaching techniques essential in English
language teaching. By participating in various activities, including reading assignments, discussions, micro-
teaching, and giving/ receiving feedback, learners will learn, reflect on their future teaching situations,
understand, and apply knowledge and skills learned from the course to improve their teaching practices at
schools. The course also aims to encourage learners’ critical thinking, reflection, communication and enhance
their confidence and motivation in English learning and teaching.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
• gain a basic understanding of common teaching methods, and then choose appropriate method(s) to
teach a lesson/ part of a lesson;
• acquire essential knowledge and skills for classroom management;
• understand and demonstrate the ability to teach vocabulary.

1 10% Students are expected to attend all modules of the course, actively participate in-
class activities, complete homework/ reading assignments, and small quizzes.
Midterm Test 1

Students will do a quiz on the common teaching methods in 50 minutes.
Micro Teaching
3 10% Students will work both individually and in groups to prepare and perform two
micro-teaching tasks (Modules 2 and 3)
Midterm Test 2
4 15%
Students will take a test in class individually (Modules 1-3).
Exam
5 50%
Students will do a 90-minute written test that covers Modules 1-3.
