SECTION A - PHYSICS (14 MARKS)

Q1. Let us consider the force of gravitation between two objects as ‘F’ and distance between them as 'd'.
What will be the effect on F if, (1+1=2)
a) d becomes one fourth its original value, masses remaining unaffected.
b) masses of both the objects are made three times, separation remaining d only.

Q2. A stone is thrown in vertically upward direction with a velocity of 6 m/s.(Take g=10m/s2)
a) What will be the height attained by the stone?
b) How much time will it take to reach there? (1+1=2)
OR
If the acceleration due to gravity on Mars is 3.8 m/s2
a) What would be the weight of an object on Mars which has a mass of 10 kg on Earth?
b) What would be its weight on Earth? (Take g=10m/s2)
(show steps of working)

Q3. Answer the following questions (1+1+1=3)

a) Define centripetal force
b) State two differences between ‘g ‘and ‘G’
c) State differences (any 2) between Mass and Weight.

Q4. Answer the following questions (1+1+1=3)

a) Define SI unit of Work.
b) A man of mass 50 kg is at a height of 0.5 m. If g =10 m/s2, what will be his energy at the highest point.
c) A woman draws water from a well of 15 m depth at 15s. If the mass of a bucket containing water is 10 kg,
calculate the power used by her (g= 10m/s2)
OR
a) Define SI unit of power
b) In a factory 10 bulbs of 50 W each operate for 12 hr daily. Calculate the units of energy consumed in a day.
c) Derive the relation between SI and commercial unit of energy.

Q5. CASE -BASED QUESTION (4 marks)

(parts a and b are compulsory, there is an internal choice in part c)

Whenever energy gets transformed the total energy remains unchanged. This is the consequence of law of
conservation of energy. According to this law, energy can only be converted from one form to another; it can
neither be created nor destroyed. The total energy before and after the transformation remains the same. The
law of conservation of energy is valid in all situations and for all kinds of transformations.
a) State the type of energy transformations that take place in electric motor. (1)

b) A man drops a 10 kg rock from the top of a 20 m ladder.

What will be its kinetic energy when it reaches the ground (Take g=10m/s2) (1)

c) Write the energy changes which occur (at three positions- extreme position-1, mean position and extreme
position-2) when we draw a pendulum bob to one side and allow it to oscillate. (2)

OR
Write the energy transformations that take place (at three positions –maximum height h, in between height x
from the top and just before touching the ground) when a stone of mass m is falling freely from the height of
‘h’ meters from the ground with the speed of ‘v’. (2)
