Soil Class Porosity Effective Porosity Wetting Front Suction Head SF (CM) Hydraulic Conductivity K (CM/HR)

This 3-hour examination tests students' understanding of hydrology concepts through 10 multiple choice or short answer items. The items cover topics like types of rain, infiltration calculations, unit hydrograph development, time of concentration estimations, and the hydrologic cycle. Students are provided tables of soil properties, streamflow data, unit hydrographs and asked to perform calculations, identify parameters, or discuss key ideas at a high level.

CE 3107 Hydrology

Final Requirement

This examination has time limit of 3 hours. Answer the different items to the best of your ability.

1) Give two types of rain according to their lifting mechanisms and discuss each concisely.

2) Calculate the cumulative infiltration and the infiltration rate on a loam soil after one hour of rainfall at 50mm/hr if the
initial effective saturation is 30 percent. Assume that ponding depth is negligible.

3) Given in the table below is a stream flow hydrograph. Determine the volume of direct runoff by separating the base
flow using the recession curve method. Semilogarithmic plot of the hydrograph is shown in Fig B.

rainfall causes ponding after 15 minutes. Determine the infiltration rate at t=1hr. Also compute the
cumulative infiltration for the first 1 hour of rain.
