Technological University of The Philippines: PHYSGEN Experiment 2 UAM

1. The document describes an experiment conducted by physics students to study the motion of a body moving along an inclined plane. The experiment aims to calculate the uniform acceleration of the body from obtained data and determine acceleration from the slope of a speed-time curve. 2. The materials used include a ticker-tape timer, cart, jacky table, cart track, paper tape, and meterstick. The procedure involves inclining the cart track, attaching the timer and paper tape to collect timing data, releasing the cart, and measuring and recording distances traveled at time intervals. 3. The data is analyzed to calculate speed, acceleration, and presented in tables and graphs. Questions are answered and conclusions are drawn about

I. OBJECTIVES

1. To study the motion of a body moving along an inclined plane.

2. To calculate the uniform acceleration of the body from the obtained data.
3. To determine the acceleration from the slope of the speed-time curve.

II. MATERIALS:

 Ticker – tape timer

 Cart
 Jacky table
 Cart track
 Paper tape
 Meterstick

III. PROCEDURE

1. Incline the cart track using the angle of inclination prescribed by your instructor.

2. Attach the ticker-tape timer to one end of the track using the clamp.
3. Attach the paper tape to one end of the cart and insert between the clapper and the
carbon paper disk.

4. Start the timer and release the cart.

5. Mark the first distinct dot and label it zero (0). From the second dot, count off the
dots on the paper tape and mark every fifth dot 1,2,3, etc. After that, measure the
total distance (in centimeters) between the zero mark and every succeeding mark
and enter your data in the second column of Table 1.
6. Calculate the;
a. Distance traveled during each time interval
b. Average speed during each time interval.
c. Acceleration in cm/dot2 (centimeter per dot squared)

7. Record your data in the perspective columns of table 1.

8. Make another trial and record your data in table 2.

9. Calculate the acceleration in cm/dot2 by dividing the difference between two
successive speeds by 5 dots.
10. Record your data in the perspective columns of table 1. Make another trial and
record your data in table 2.

IV. DATA AND RESULTS

Present the results in tables and/or graphs (if necessary).

V. CALCULATIONS
Necessary Computations

VI. DISCUSSION/ ANALYSIS OF DATA AND QUESTIONS

Answer the guide questions in detail.
(Answer should be strictly 2-3 sentences only.)
