Unit - Unit 8 - Quadratic Functions and Equations - 20220306062819

This 4-week unit covers quadratic functions and equations. Students will learn to graph and solve quadratic equations in multiple ways, including by using tables, graphs, factoring, completing the square, and the quadratic formula. They will also learn to identify characteristics of quadratic functions such as the axis of symmetry and vertex. The goals are for students to be able to model real-world situations using quadratic functions and equations.

Big Idea: Quadratic Functions & Equations

Enduring Understandings
The family of quadratic functions has equations of the form y = ax2 + bx + c, where a ≠ 0. The graph of a
quadratic function is a parabola.

You can solve quadratic equations using several methods.

To model a data set, choose a function that most closely matches the pattern in the data or graph.

Essential Questions
How can you solve quadratic equations using concrete models, tables, graphs, and algebraic method?

What are the characteristics of quadratic functions?

How can you use functions to model real-world situations?
