Ismael, Kyzil C. Explain Briefly Why Is Listening Considered A Mental Operation That Needs More Focus?

Listening is a mental process that requires focus because the listener must comprehend, analyze, and review what they hear in order to effectively communicate. There are three main problems with listening - speed of speech, speed of the speaker's voice, and retention of information - and potential solutions. For speed of speech, speakers should adjust their rate and listeners should practice comprehension at different rates. For speed of voice, listeners should practice listening to native speakers. And for retention, listeners should recall information verbally or visually, share it with others, and create mind maps to improve memorization.

ISMAEL, KYZIL C.

Explain briefly why is listening considered a mental operation that

needs more focus?
The most important skill in communication is listening. It is a communication process
wherein the listeners must comprehend, analyze, and review what they hear.
Communication can be hampered if we do not listen. It is essential and should play a
significant role in communication. Listening effectively improves personal relationships
by resolving conflicts and enhances cooperation by fostering a shared understanding.
Listening is important because it allows people to pay attention to others in order to
understand what is being delivered or communicated to them.

Give three problems in listening and their solutions to remediate these

problems.
1. SPEED OF SPEECH
Speed can make listening passage difficult. If the speaker speak too fast student
may have serious problems to understand the message. In this situation,
listeners are not able to control the speed of speakers and this can create critical
problems with listening comprehension.

SOLUTION
For Speaker: They should be advised to use speech rate to a level that would
suits their listener.
For Listener: They should practice listening skills daily from a slow ate speech to
moderate rate speech up to fast rate speech while trying to understand the
message of the audio material. The best activity to remediate this problem is
letting the student read it fast and then read it at naturally or moderately speech.
Then after reading, compare on what speech rate is better than the other and
why?

2. SPEED OF SPEAKER’S VOICE

In this problem, some speakers are fast talkers which makes the message
unclear to the listener.

SOLUTION
Everyone should have good habit of listening. Listening to native speakers to
reinforce good habit of listening is the best solution to this problem. And the best
activity to remediate this problem is story telling.
3. RETENTION OF INFORMATION
Listeners may have difficulty remembering what they have heard or
understanding the message's meaning.

SOLUTION
Listeners must recall and enhance the information they have heard, either
verbally or visually, in order to better memorize it. They can improve it by sharing
it with their peers and creating a mind map. Message relay is the best activity for
this problem. Listeners must pay close attention and then memorize what is said.

Listen to the speaker, then answer these questions:

a. What makes a good teacher great?

A great teacher, in my opinion, aims to broaden their awareness and continues to
provide good answers to their students. As a result, great teachers could very well
understand their students' difficulties and try to address them appropriately. They offer
students the impression that they will always have somebody to talk to if they are
unable to do so at home or with their friends.

b. Give three quoted statements of the speaker that inspire you to be

like him.
1. A great teacher helps students if they notice a struggle.
2. A great teacher loves to learn.
3. A great teacher understands that students have a life.
