Amazon is the world's leading online retailer that continues to grow at 20% each year, controlling 40% of the US e-commerce market and 75% of the smart speaker market. As the easiest way to buy online, Amazon remains a major strength led by CEO Jeff Bezos, the highest net worth individual. While limited in developing markets and brick-and-mortar presence, opportunities exist to expand into new markets and partnerships globally. However, Amazon faces threats from competitors like Alibaba and Walmart, in addition to risks of cybercrime and legal issues over pricing.

Amazon

Strengths- Amazon is the world's leading online retailer, and continues


to grow at about 20% each year. Amazon has a sustainable competitive
advantage(measured by market share leadership) Controls about 40% of
the U.S E-commerce market, Amazon Echo is about 75% of the smart-
speaker market, and has a major Hollywood studio. Amazon remains the
easiest way to buy products especially in this new digital world we live in.
Their CEO Jeff Bezos is a huge strength with the highest net worth in the
world at $120 Billion. Amazon is always thinking about the next thing and
moving forward into different markets, some examples are Amazon Prime,
Amazon Echo, Amazon Health Care with JPMorgan and Berkshire
Hathaway. Amazon stocks are also higher than ever.

Weaknesses- Limited business model, Limited penetration in


developing markets and their limited brick and mortar presence. I always
thought one of the biggest weaknesses of Amazon was that it is easy to
replicate, which happens when all the brands that sell on Amazon decide to
sell it themselves. As well the online only can be a huge weakness when it
comes time to get out the house again.

Opportunities- The biggest opportunity for Amazon is to keep


expanding into different markets, they already have the biggest e-
commerce site in the world, it's time to move forward. They have just
started up with food and have acquired parts of Whole Foods. Expansion
in brick n mortar stores, creating new partnerships with other brands and
companies. Expanding global footprint and opening more sites. Creating
more things under the “Amazon” brand.

Threats- Competition from other online companies(Alibaba, Walmart,


Costco), Taking over business strategy, A huge threat with the increased
use of online retail is cybercrime, stealing people's name, card information
and complete identity theft. Due to their pricing strategies they have faced
lawsuits from publishers in the retailing industry.
